Prologue:
Welcome to Ikebukuro
Drip, drip, drip.
Drop.
The last drops of rain slid down the town gutters as the clouds scattered from the sky. People looked outside from the safety of their homes. It was officially springtime in Ikebukuro, and never did the city look any more peaceful than it did at that moment.
In a city congregated with thousands of beings — hundreds of thousands, maybe — lived a particular group of humans. None served especially dynamic to the quiet town: at least, not on the exterior. (Or maybe they did, and weren't especially dynamic on the interior?) Each had his/her own way of going about life, and each had his/her own secrets to hide. They responded to the weather in kind.
One like this:
"Mikado! Anri! Did you see that? Like the marvelous sunset of a warm summer evening!"
Another like this:
"Looks like the start of another year; I can't wait!"
And another like this:
"Hm. The rain stopped."
Everyone had personality: something that made that person distinct from the rest of the town, carrying his own story and purpose in life. And whatever caused that person to get dragged into this exotic city surely was aware of the many mysteries it had to bequeath. Many a person would concede after living there for two weeks, tops.
"I love you and will do anything and everything to keep you by my side — even if it means sacrificing you, Celty."
Every now and then, one would question why they chose to walk down such a deep, dreary path that came with no benefits. Or was there?
From a headless courier, to an informant broker, to a bodyguard, to your typical Raira Academy student, there was much to be discovered, and more to be discovered from what was already discovered. Such were the lives of Ryūgamine Mikado, Kida Masaomi, Sonohara Anri, Heiwajima Shizuo, Orihara Izaya, and Celty Sturluson. A resident would only be able to utter the following sentence upon meeting a new inhabitant:
"Welcome to Ikebukuro."
Hello, all! Thank you for deciding to read this story; I'd received a sudden burst of inspiration earlier this afternoon and uploaded this prologue after having worked on it for a mere two hours (how hasty of me!). "Durarara‼" has performed some kind of magic trick on my writer's mind — it's been a month since I last watched/read the series, yet it still intrigues me! The first chapter will probably take some time to come (what with school and all), but I'll begin writing the chapters immediately and upload them every two days once I'm a good ways through! Thanks again!
