Why Don't' You Kiss Her?
Seeley Booth and his six-year-old son Parker sat in the older man's bedroom, having a Talk about Dr. Brennan.
"Daddy," Parker said with a more serious expression than Booth had ever seen on some of the men he WORKED with. "Daddy, do you love Dr. Bones?"
"Kiddo, it's complicated. You see… We're the best of friends, and we share our secrets. She knows everything that is on my mind. Lately something's changed, as I lie awake in my bed, a voice here inside my head, softly says…"
Parker cut his father off with some youthful wisdom. "Daddy, why don't you kiss her? Why don't you tell her? Why don't you let her see the feelings that you hide? 'Because she'll never know, if you never show, the way you feel inside."
Booth stared at the young boy. How could THAT come from a child? But, he continued. "Oh, I'm so afraid to make that first move. Just a touch and we could cross that line. But every time she's near, I want to…never let her go….confess to her what my heart knows, and hold her close."
Parker returned with the same wisdom. "So, why don't you kiss her? Why don't you tell her? Why don't you let her see, the feelings that you hide? 'Because she'll never know, if you never show, the way you feel inside."
"Son, what would she say? I wonder, would she just turn away? Or might she promise me that she's here to stay. It hurts me to wait…"
"So I'll ask you myself… why don't you kiss her? And tell her you love her. Why don't you tell her? You tell her you need her. Why don't you let her see those feelings that you hide? 'Because she'll never know, if you never show, the way you feel inside."
"Kiddo, it's not that easy."
"It might be."
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. When father and son went to answer it, they saw none other than the topic of their most recent discussion.
Dr. Brennan had an addition to the conversation. "Why don't you kiss me?"
So, that's exactly what he did. And, to his surprise, she kissed back. Parker slipped out of the room unnoticed, whispering to himself, "Man, that Jesse McCartney has some seriously good advice!"
