Title: Oxygen
Rating: T
Summary: "You said you didn't need anyone… but that didn't last very long, did it?" Angsty LG One-Shot. Not for LG fans.
Disclaimer: I do not own Lizzie McGuire.
AN: O.K, this usually isn't the type of thing I write, but I have writers block for my other story, and I felt like writing something. Sorry to fans of LG, and I'm a massive LG fan too, but I sat down, and this is what I came up with. Please read and review, and tell me what you think : )
Oxygen
You said you didn't need anyone.
You said you could live independently and nobody could get in your way. You resisted and resented.
But that didn't last very long, did it?
Why is it that you feel like you need him? Like he's your oxygen. Like your life has no meaning without him.
You're kidding yourself if you think you don't need him.
-----------------
You can do it. You have the strength.
Stop twirling your long blonde locks carelessly around your finger. Don't be nervous.
His eyes are gazing into yours, waiting for you to say something.
So…?
Why aren't any words coming out of your mouth?
Say it.
You rehearsed this moment for hours; you know what you want to say, so why aren't you saying anything?
Listen to your heartbeat. It wants you to let go.
-------------
His arms are draped protectively around your shoulders. You know what he's thinking; you know what he wants to say. You are dying to say it back.
But something's stopping you.
You trace your finger delicately around the bright red rose he's given to you. He takes your other hand and strokes it gently with his thumb. The words you knew were coming escaped from his lips so easily. You feel your breath caught in your throat. He's waiting for you to say something… anything in reply. You want to say it, and you think you're ready.
You are.
So, why are you lying? Your fist is wrapped tightly around his rose, unwilling to let go. Yet, you're lying. Why?
Because you're afraid.
"You deserve someone better" you utter, trying to convince yourself as well as him. "You don't need me" You can't stop your tears.
You think you're protecting him.
But you're killing him.
------------------
He kisses your lips, your cheeks, your neck, and your hair. You think there's a possibility you could sink into the depths of the sofa and never return. You know in this moment this is where you want to be,
You never thought you could admit this to yourself, but you feel complete. He tenderly brushes his hand against your cheek, and butterflies are doing their work in your stomach.
He breathes into your hair, and you know he is about to whisper your name into your ear. "Lizzie…"
You feel like you can breathe when you're around him. He is your oxygen. He is about to whisper those three words you've been dying to hear…
Then he vanishes.
You stir upon your mattress. You shiver. It's cold.
Your eyelids slowly open. You awaken to your terrifying reality.
You're alone.
You tremble. "David?" you whisper anxiously.
There is no reply.
And there never will be.
Fin.
