Hermione stood still holding her breath, too scared to breathe in case he heard her. She already knew that the snatcher before her knew something wasn't quite right. She played nervously with her pink scarf until the snatchers attention was drawn elsewhere. One of his minions had dropped the mudblood girl they had captured. The man shouted and cursed, told them to be careful with the 'filthy mudblood cargo'. The man at fault apologised several times and at the end of each apology was his name: Scabior.
Once the snatchers had left Hermione recalled what Scabior had looked like. He was a tall with long, tangled brown hair, pale skin which was dirtied from his duties and his eyes, she noted, were a strange shade of grey. Everything about him scared her and rightly so but she also felt this pull towards him. She knew he was dangerous but she could not stop thinking about him.
That night she wondered what he would have been like as a boy. Scabior didn't appear to look that much older than herself. Could they have attended school together but just not have known it? Could he have once been like any other wizard? Loving and caring, in search for a girl to set up life with after Hogwarts? She could have been that girl. She wanted to be that girl. The thrill of the danger ran through her veins.
Hermione scolded herself once she realised her thoughts had wavered. Only just a few days ago she had wanted all this with Ron. Ronald Weasley. The red haired boy she had met in first year. He was silly but cute but still didn't know that she wanted him that way. Did she still even want him that way? She didn't know herself.
How could just a couple of minutes in Scabior's presence do this to her? She didn't understand. She knew his job and where his loyalties lay. Why did she feel like running to him instead of away?
She tossed and turned in bed, huffing as she tried to reign in her thoughts. However, she hadn't noticed that Ron had sat watching these past few minutes. She didn't know that Harry had told him what had happened with the snatcher. And most of all she didn't realise that he was in love with her and because of this he saw the change in her.
