Set before Pippa's funeral, and right after Pippa's death.

Felicity pushes at her humanity, a way to test her power, her control over life itself.

The edge of her gown kisses the surface of the lake, her steps are sure as she wades farther in.

She remembers Pippa beneath the water. Was it as biting as this? Did it numb her body until she felt nothing? Felicity can barely feel her toes, but her heart is white-hot with pain. She wishes it would freeze as well. Maybe it will soon, if she goes out far enough, deep enough.

The water reaches mid-thigh, tugging down at her heavy skirts, like a child pulling on their mother's dress for a treat.

She catches a glimpse of something black, a sliver of shadow at the corner of her eyesight. a bird flying over the lake, or perhaps a fish swimming beneath. felicity doesn't turn her head; she knows she would find both sky and water empty.

Before she can sink any lower, before she can see anything else that isn't there, Gemma calls her name from the shore.

"Felicity! Come out of the water!"

"I'm coming." Felicity doesn't know if she's calling to Gemma or Pippa, but she likes the decisive air to the words. "I'm coming."
