I paced up and down, taking deep breaths whilst, in my hands, I had a box of chocolates and a card.
Come on Randall, you can do this... just give it to him.
He doesn't even know that I like him, won't he feel a bit weird when I just give him a box of chocolates out of the blue?
I'm in love with my best friend...
I needed to stop stalling, I had to get it over and done with, so I walked to his house. I still can't believe I'm doing this...
My hand was shaking and my heart best sped up as of raised my hand to knock on the door. Then I waited, holding the box behind my back.
That's when he opened the door. "Oh, hey Randall." He smiled. "Come in."
Well... it's now or never...
I felt stupid, I still hadn't given it to him, I kept stalling, we were in his room, sat on his bed and after a while of talking, that's when I decided to stop being afraid and just get on with it.
"Hershel, I- I have... something... for you." I was already blushing and I hadn't even given it to him yet. I held out the box, refusing to make eye contact. I told him to read the card, as it had everything I wanted to say to him but just couldn't, the fact that I always had feelings for him, how I had to try and hide it as much as I could, how I couldn't let people at school find out, how I was scared...
I glanced up at him, he was still reading it. "Randall..."
I looks away, my face completely red, I was preparing for rejection, but to my surprise, that's not what happened.
He kissed my cheek. "Randall, this is really cute." He smiled at me. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
I shrugged. "I guess I was scared that you'd stop talking to me."
"If you told me sooner, I would have been able to do this sooner."
"Wh-What?"
He leaned into me again. "Stop shaking so much." He held me closer. "I-I..."
"Randall, are you alright? It's not like you to be this nervous."
He was right, I needed to try and stay calm.
I smiled and nodded. "I'm fine, Hersh."
Inside, I still felt just a tiny bit nervous, there was a very small space in between us and our lips were nearly touching, so I decided to close it.
"Does this mean you like me back?" I mumbled against his lips. He nodded. When we pulled apart, I want really sure what to say, so I just smiled.
"Happy Valentine's Day, Randall." Hershel smiled as he ran his hand through my hair.
"I also bought some chocolates for you."
"You're so sweet."
I smiled. "I know."
