Sigh.
It was hardly the only sound there mother made now a days when not in conversation. This didn't go unnoticed to Kai and his sister.
"Momma, how are you today?" The little female Eevee asked, nuzzling her snout against her mothers soft lavender fur.
"Momma's just tired Kuri, I was up all night."
Short.
She kept her words short.
Kai was a sharp boy. He had to be to get by in this world.
He was, Special.
Nothing like his sister with her soft auburn fur.
He was silver.
He'd questioned it before, mother loved him all the same, Kuri was jealous, and dad…
Dad wasn't around much.
He knew him, but he didn't know him…
His father was an umbreon, an amazing one at that.
Of course, he'd only heard stories from his Mother about him; he was too young to remember. Dad had left when he and Kuri were only a few weeks old. Now, he hadn't walked out on them. Mother and Father loved each other very much. But he had a lot to deal with. Something to do with a trainer he had run away from, he really didn't know the details.
Sigh.
There it was again.
"Mother, may I go outside for a little while?" He asked her, already walking to the opening in the den. "Sure Kai, just be careful." She said, giving an unnecessary answer.
He needed to get out.
Out of that cramped space with the stale air, filled with sad, mournful sighs of a vixen scorned.
He needed to calculate things. That was a trait he had gotten from his mother, the mind as sharp as an assassins knife. Unlike his sister, who was two minutes younger than him. Hers was as sharp as a rusty spoon…
"Big Brooother!"
Speak of the devil. "What do you want Kuri?"
"I wanna come play with ya, 'sat okay?"
"No it isn't." I need to think.
"But why not? You're outside, so let's play!"
"Not everyone likes to play." I need some space.
"But c'mon brotherrr!" She purred, leaning against him and wrapping her paws around him.
"Get away." No more space…
"But I love yooou!"
"Get away…" I can't breathe…
"But I wanna pla-"
"Get away!" I need Air!
He dashed off after breaking free of his sisters grasp, running into the forest nearby.
The female Espeon watched this ordeal from the mouth of the cave, sighing again and shaking her head. "He's rash, like his father." She mused to her whining little girl. "Come here honey, It's okay, Kai will be back…" She assured her, wrapping her forked tail around her.
He would be back, but not for a long time.
For you see, Kai ran much farther in his blind confusion than he intended to.
He knew not where he was.
A large field.
A big tree.
A familiar one under it.
Dark fur.
Gold rings.
Father…
"Father!" He cried without even meaning too, his legs pumping as fast as they could across the field to the grinning umbreon with a kinked ear.
Three days.
That was how long it was.
The mother Espeon was worried sick, so was the lonesome sister.
The large lavender ears perked at the sound of foot falls, two sets, one small, one large.
She smiled softly and went out to greet them, Kuri following her.
"I missed you, love."
"I missed you too, Kali…"
"Brother!" followed by a pounce.
"Hn.."
At least there was no more Sighing.
