Eyebrow arching, Regina glanced up reflexively from her perusal of the morning paper, her interest piqued by the bell's song, startled from its silence by the gust of wind from the open door.
Emma stomped in, her hair porn-star perfect, despite the gale that was blowing outside. She made her way sullenly to the counter, where she ordered a slice of chocolate cake with extra whipped cream. After Ruby's chirpy reply, she retreated to the booth in front of Regina's, who pretended not to notice her.
But she had. She couldn't take her eyes off her. It was the same every Thursday morning, around eleven A.M., hail, rain or shine. Sometimes it would be lasagna, sometimes just a hot chocolate with cinnamon. But Regina always made sure she was there to witness it. She saw the happiness reflected in Emma's face when she was finished; how the happiness manifested itself in a smile that made Regina's heart flutter like a schoolgirl's.
Ruby brought the plate over and plonked it cheerily on the table in front of Emma, whose scowl immediately disappeared as she grabbed the fork, unraveling it out of the napkin with a flourish.
Regina watched Emma dig into the chocolate cake with unrestrained gusto, crossing her legs as Emma rolled her eyes back in her head when the first taste of chocolate heaven hit her tongue. Regina could almost see the thought bubble appear over the Saviour's head; "God, that's good."
How Regina longed to hear those words, but it was more than that.
She would kill to be that damn chocolate cake.
