Chapter One:
Fuu didn't know if it was the fact that there was no comforting light, or heat, or noise anywhere in the camp. The fire had vanished long ago, because there wasn't a scent of it anywhere in the damp morning air. One eye opened and immediately found the sleeping form which she knew was Mugen. He's sleeping just fine, she thought to herself, and why wouldn't he? She sat up and rubbed her eyes before looking over toward Jin who was also fast asleep. Impatiently, Fuu stood up and walked over the where the fire used to be. Now there was only a pile of ash and a few burnt sticks. She looked toward the pile of wood, then to the path. I'm upset that that's why I can't sleep, she thought to herself, thinking about the argument that Mugen and she had shared just hours before. She turned back around and walked over to Mugen. He looked so peaceful when he was asleep. How can he sleep so peacefully, when I can't even close my eyes for one moment without thinking about the argument? Does it really not mean anything to him?
She became frustrated. So frustrated that for a moment she thought about kicking him. Maybe she could burn the sake that lay in the bottle by his side. Her eyes shot down to his feet. On them were his metal geta, one thing that she knew he took pride in. Without those geta he could do less when he fought, and without them he would be a mess. She smirked and kneeled down, sliding off her own shoes and placing them by him. She looked at his face, making sure that he was asleep. When she was sure of it, she quickly slipped off his geta and placed them on her feet. They were big for her, but she didn't care. She got up to walk to the opposite side of the campsite, and then on to the path in the woods before she turned around and grabbed the bottle of sake.
I might as well take this with me, she thought and continued toward the path and disappeared into the darkness of the woods.
A little bit later….
Mugen woke up when he got the feeling that something was wrong. When he opened his eyes all he could see were the stars in the sky and the darkness surrounding him. It was cold and it took him a minute to actually figure out that the fire had gone out.
"Fuu," he mumbled, "Get up and fix the damn fire."
He got no reply and heard no haste moves to make a new fire.
"Damn it Fuu, get up and make a new fire," he mumbled again.
Again he was answered by silence.
He turned his head so that he could look over at Fuu. But when his eyes hit the spot where she had fallen asleep, he realized that she was gone. He sat up and looked again before mumbling to himself: Damn it, she's gone and gotten herself kidnapped again. He got up and looked around noticing that his feet could feel the cold dirt. "Fuck…they took my geta!"
He looked around the camp once, making sure that four-eyes was alright, and for a moment thought about waking him up too, so that maybe he could help search for Fuu and the geta, but then he thought against it. He saw no sign of a struggle and no blood. All he found was Fuu's geta lying next to where he had been sleeping. He looked over at the trail, covered in thorn vines and sharp sticks and cursed under his breath. He slid on Fuu's shoes and started through the woods after Fuu.
