Present
"Don't leave!" Sakura cried out, tears streaming down her cheeks. "If you leave, I'll scream!"
In a blink of an eye, Sasuke flashed from where he had stood in front of the pink-haired kunzite to stand behind her.
"Sakura…thank you."
3 years later…
Sasuke stood at the gates of Konohagakure, his onyx-colored eyes showing no joy at seeing his old teammates again, or any emotion at that.
Kakashi remained silent, his visible eye glancing from Naruto, to Sakura, then back to Sasuke.
Even Naruto remained serious, his lower lip jutted out stubbornly, brows furrowed, meeting Sasuke's emotionless gaze as if it were some contest.
He was the first to speak.
The 15 year-old Genin inhaled deeply, closed his eyes, then exhaled. Opening his eyes again, he grinned widely, putting his arms behind his head. "Welcome back, Sasuke!"
Sasuke continued to look at Naruto blankly. Then, blinking once, as if to acknowledge him, the Uchiha turned to rest his eyes on Sakura.
Sakura had her hands at her sides, her fists clenched so tightly that they were trembling, and looked as if she were glaring at her former teammate. If looked at close enough, one would see she was biting her lower lip.
Sasuke didn't flinch, nor did he look intimidated.
Finally, after what seemed like 5 minutes of a staring contest, Sakura closed her emerald-green eyes and sighed.
"Welcome back…Sasuke-kun." When uttering his name, she opened her eyes and smiled more brightly than she ever had in the past 3 years.
Sasuke's onyx-eyes seemed to brighten. "Hn." A faint smile - but it still was a smile - formed on his lips.
Sakura laughed softly and said again, "Welcome back, Sasuke-kun. Welcome back."
Kakashi's right eye seemed to soften before it closed. His unseen smile shone, just as brightly as it would have been uncovered, from behind his mask.
Team 7 was together again.
A/N: I know, I know…[Spoiler Alert!!!] I've read the latest Naruto manga chapter, and Sasuke's not coming back…sadly. :( [/Spoiler Alert] I've always loved SasuSaku, and I thought it was disappointing that in Shippuuden it doesn't seem as if he feels anything for Sakura anymore. I hope Kishimoto has Sasuke come back, and it'd be even better if he confirms SasuSaku is canon!!! *_* Anyways…yep, I don't really have much to tell you.
