Proud.

One word that described what Wilfred Mott thought of the Doctor was proud.

Wilf was proud of the Doctor for who he was and what he did. The Doctor was a man who stood up for what he believed and defended the people of the Earth no matter the cost. He stood up to the Master and defied him. He was the one person between the Master and the Earth.

Even though everyone on Earth became the Master, the Doctor did not give up. He did not quit on the people. He kept on persevering even when everything seemed dire.

When the Master taunted the Doctor and called Wilf his dad, a similar thought ran through his head and he voiced it out-loud. If the Doctor was his son, he would be proud of him. And he was. He looked like he could be his son except for those eyes, those old sad eyes.

The Doctor's eyes could pierce one's very soul. They seemed to see every detail of your life. They were filled to the brim with an ancient wisdom, knowledge, and sadness that surpassed Wilf's own.

The Doctor believed in solving a situation through the use of words and actions, not violently forcing a person to do his will with weapons. Not many people stood up for that. Wilf thought that what the Doctor did was rare and honorable.

As Wilf observed the Doctor's actions over the course of that fateful final day, he was glad that he was on the Earth's side. The Earth would be doomed if its defender wasn't there. Seeing the Doctor with Wilf's gun was wrong. Wilf had had a good reason to give that weapon to him. He didn't want this Doctor to die. He was a good man. But seeing that gun in those hands struck fear in his heart. Wilf was relieved when he saw the Doctor use the gun to shoot the machine, and not the Master or the Time Lords, even if they deserved it. Yet another reason to be proud of the Doctor.

Wilf was sad that the Doctor had to sacrifice himself for an old man like him. It was wrong that this planet would be deprived of a man like the Doctor. He didn't understand the concept of regeneration, just that this Doctor would be replaced by another man who looked and acted different. It still was unfair. This Doctor was his Doctor, Donna's Doctor. It would be hard to not think of this man without his current face, body, and personality.

Whatever happened Wilf would always be proud of the Doctor, Earth's defender.
