'Those aren't due to loss of sleep…' 'Well, what are they?' '…They are the paths worn down by your tears…'

Her eyes were hooded as she watched Itachi lie beside her. She watched his face closely, eyes tracing every mark, and every curve. Slowly, she traced the two lines on either side of his nose. His hand immediately snatched out and grabbed her wrist.

"…What are you doing, Hikari?" The elder Uchiha asked calmly. The young Namikaze smiled.

"I know why those lines are there." She said softly, her voice barely audible.

"Well, then why?" He was obviously amused by her sudden observation. She frowned.

"…You mock me…" She said, hurt clear in her tone.

"I've told you, they are due to lack of sleep." Itachi said, voice hard, and eyes piercing into her own gray orbs. She was silent, and she gave a sad smile. She leaned over, and kissed his cheek, shocking him. She sat up and grabbed her clothes off of the floor. She pulled them on, conscious of the fact that he was watching her every move. Once dressed, she headed towards the door. He still watched her closely as her hand grabbed the doorknob. She hesitated.

"Itachi-kun…" she started, but hesitated.

"Hm?"

"Those aren't due to sleep loss…" She stated boldly.

"Well, what are they?" He said unflinchingly. Hikari opened he door, and looked over her shoulder. Her next words seeded themselves into his head, planted themselves, and began to grow. The Namikaze stepped outside, and as she closed the door she spoke.

"…They are the paths worn down by you tears…" She whispered, closing the door behind her. The Uchiha lay still on their bed, not moving a muscle. Finally, a soft smile graced his features, and he lay back down, closing his eyes.

"…I knew…that she was he only one who can understand me…" He said to his self. "…My Hikari…"

xXxXx

Outside their door, Hikari stood, back pressed against the plank of wood separating her from her love. She heard what he said, and smiled, love etched into all of her features.

"My Uchiha…" she whispered. She righted herself, and continued down the hall towards the Kitchen. The smile never left her face…not for an instant.
