I wrote this on a whim, because upcoming stuff on the show depresses me and Foreteen sucks. Reviews are welcomed with love. (:

It was a secret, their secret. They decided to keep it to themselves for now; it hadn't been that long since she and Foreman had broken up and she didn't want it to look like she was sleeping with everybody in the diagnostics department. Not that she really could though; Taub was married and had refined his principles and House only had eyes for Cuddy.

So at work, they were Kutner and Thirteen. But when they were away from work, when they were allowed to have their personal, intimate alone moments, they were Lawrence and Remy. They were careful not to slip and call each other by their first name or show signs of affection to each other, because then everybody would be into their lives and relationship, and to Remy and Lawrence, they'd rather not share what they had with others. Not yet. It was a secret.

They had a code that they used at work. When one would rub the back of their own neck, it would mean I miss you. Rubbing small circles on their collarbone would tell the other, meet me alone later. Touching the left earlobe would signify stop while touching the right would mean I'm sorry. A left touch from one was usually followed by a right touch from the other. Running a hand though their hair, twisting locks of it said, it's okay. That one was used a lot during the long, frustrating days when every step seemed to make the situation worse and take them two steps backwards. Grasping a wrist with their hand would be begging for help. Lawrence used that one often when House would verbally back him into a corner, criticizing an idea of his. Running a thumb across the bottom lip was kisses, and when they would tap their cheek twice – tap tap – it meant I love you.

These methods of communication got them through the day, when they had to be Kutner and Thirteen. They thrived off of these, because it was all they had, except for the rare, stolen, rushed kisses they shared when they found themselves to be isolated from the rest. That didn't happen often at the hospital.

They were happy. Finding themselves together wasn't something either had imagined, but now that it was real, they couldn't imagine it any other way. Remy stopped finding his quirkiness annoying and learned to love it, and her complex way of thinking about things intrigued Lawrence. Their similarities allowed them to relate to one another, while their differences offset them just enough to complement each other. They struck a perfect balance.

During a differential diagnosis session with the rest of the team, Remy would be speaking, spewing medical jargon and would rub the back of her neck. To the others, this would go unnoticed because it was a normal thing to do. However, Lawrence knew what she was really saying. I miss you. So, retorting back, talking about white blood cells and diseases that ended in –itis, he would raise his hand to the side of his face and tap his cheek twice. Again, it would go unnoticed because they weren't looking for the subtle signs of affection. Remy would catch Lawrence's eye to see him grinning, and she would smile slightly too, and quickly tap her cheek as well and move on with the conversation.

And that's how it was, until they would let the others know about their relationship. But for now, Remy and Lawrence were content with their secret, not wanting to share.
