This is my first ever fanfiction. English is not my first language so if there are mistakes I apologise. Enjoy! And please let me know what you think of it.

He stared at her from the back of the café. He noticed some kind of sadness in her eyes. Not the kind of sadness that everybody has from time to time but a sadness that comes so intertwined with someone, that it becomes a part of who they are. That's what he saw when he looked at the girl with the golden hair with eyes that resembled the New York sky on a sunny day. She looked like the kind of girl people write songs about.

He knew he probably looked creepy staring at her like that but in his defense he had a solid reason. And the other thing was that even if he tried he probably was physically unable to look away. People noticed and raised their eyebrows at his obsessively staring, yet funnily enough the object of his gaze seemed to be clueless.

It was the beginning of summer and the energy that came with the prospect of having a break from work seemed to be buzzing in the big apple. He wasn't sure yet if he liked it here. People seemed to rush more, seemed like they never stood still, always afraid of running out of time. Plus for the fact that Lucas felt pretty small here, it was as if he was just another face in the mass. Which for some reason frightened him.

Then again if someone as beautiful as that girl lives here, than how bad can it be? Finally after what seemed forever the girl made her way to his table. Unconsciously swaying her hips as she went. ''What can I get for you today?'' She seemed bored, maybe a bit annoyed to have to work in this unbearable heat. She didn't even look up, maybe if she did she would have noticed the way he seemed under her spell. ''Just a coffee, please.'' He spoke, feeling his usual confidence slide away.

The girl looked up, smirking. ''You are not from around here, right? Let me guess. Texas?'' Lucas felt his cheeks go scarlet, staring with wide eyes at the confident girl in front of him. Luckily he quickly composed himself. ''That's right Milady.'' He responded accentuating and over doing his already thick accent. That got a small laugh out her. He wonders if he can make her giggle but on second thought she just doesn't seem like the type that would ever giggle. For now, he was satisfied with making her laugh, almost feeling a great sense of pride wash over him, like making her laugh was the biggest accomplishment. Then again she had a wonderful laugh. ''A coffee coming right up, cowboy.'' She was gone before he could even progress that she was there in the first place.

After his coffee was almost empty and he was the last person in the café except for an elderly lady he asked for the bill. ''Here you go ranger rick.'' Lucas had heard many nicknames mocking him for his Texas heritage but he must say she was creative and never seemed to run out of choices. He pays everything he owed plus an hundred dollar bill as a tip. True even for him it was a bit over the top but he has laughed more today than he has in the prior three months. Unnoticeably he slipped a card in there as well before leaving, never looking back for the girl with the golden hair and the sad eyes. Maybe if he did he would see the girl watching him leave.
