Finland woke with an arm around his chest. A rather long and solid arm. He followed the line of the arm with his eyes up to the shoulder where it was connected, then looked at the face the shoulder belonged to. What he found was a silently slumbering Sweden. Finland stared at him in confusion. He didn't feel like he was drunk or had a hangover, and he certainly didn't feel like he had a gap in his memory, so he had no idea what Sweden was doing in his bed or how he had got there.
His small movements had roused Sweden from his sleep. He shifted, stretched, and opened his eyes. He immediately jerked away from Finland and sat up, facing away from him, one leg hanging off the bed.
"Sorry," Sweden quickly apologized in a low mumble. "I fell asleep by accident."
"That's... fine, but why were you in here at all?" Finland asked, trying to make his tone light as Sweden glanced at him from the side with his sharp eyes.
Sweden shook his head, then looked down at the floor. After a long, painful silence, he turned to look at him. The silence this time was so fragile that Finland found himself holding his breath. He really wanted to hear what he had to say.
"I had a dream that I lost you," Sweden rumbled. This was all he said. He did not describe the dream, but the weight of the words hung in the air as he regarded Finland.
Finland was tempted to speak, but sensed there was more to come, so kept silent. Sweden uttered, "I had to see if you were safe."
There was something in his voice that seemed ashamed, and Finland wouldn't have that. "No, that's okay…" He reached out and grasped Sweden's arm. "R-really, it's okay. Anytime you need to see me, don't worry about waking me up. Just do it. If you need to stay... that's okay too." He hesitated before continuing, "If you think it would help, you could just sleep with me…"
Sweden's expression was one of rare vulnerability. "You would let me do that?"
In seeing his slightly more gentle expression than usual, Finland breathed, "Come here." He then tugged on Sweden's arm, who let himself be pulled back into the bed to lie next to Finland. "I'm not afraid. It is really no problem."
Sweden rolled over so he could wrap his arm around Finland. It felt good being here next to him, like he had been before one time long ago. Sweden thought he could be content with this forever. In this moment, he was just so utterly grateful to have a place of safety with Finland. He slipped back into sleep so easily like this, leaving Finland alone in the dark with his warmth around him.
Finland felt himself growing drowsy under Sweden's tender hold, and even more so when surrounded by his sweet scent. In no time at all, he was soon about to fall asleep as well. Before he did however, Finland carefully reached up and caressed Sweden's hair with a few fingers.
Upon Sweden's sleeping face, the smallest of smiles appeared.
