Spoilers for Race to the Edge Season Six!
This small one-shot starts what will hopefully be a flood of stories post-RttE for me. We'll see. Ideas from you guys are very welcome.
Enjoy!
On most nights, you could find Hiccup Haddock the Third hard at work in the Forge. Oblivious to what was going on around him if he was invested in a project. Sometimes not even sleeping if he was busy enough.
But, one month after they returned to Berk, Astrid Hofferson couldn't find him at the Forge. She had been trying to find Hiccup for almost an week now, and he wasn't in his usual 'I'm too busy to focus on life' place. Which meant he was in his room.
As Astrid headed up the stairs in the Haddock Household, she could already hear her Betrothed muttering. "Big. Had to be big. Froze Johann. Doesn't fire fire, but ice."
Astrid opened the door and leaned on the doorpost. "Isn't geeking over dragons Fishlegs's job?"
Hiccup looked up. "Usually. But I'm the only person who even got close to the King of Dragons. We have no idea what this thing is."
Astrid sat down beside him. "So, what do you have?"
Hiccup leaned back and sighed. "Nothing. Not really. It fires ice, has the ability to control dragons, and must be big. The ice under Berserker Island was absolutely massive."
Astrid nodded. "I get that you want to know what kind of dragon the King of Dragons is, but staying in your room isn't going to help. What about all those projects you were working on before? Inferno and your stupid flight suit?"
Hiccup closed his eyes. "I'm waiting for Meatlug and the other Gronckles to produce Gronckle Iron for Inferno, and the flightsuit can't be made until the next Yak is killed. I-"
Astrid interrupted him. "Hiccup, you do realise you've been in your room for almost a week now, right?" At his dumbfounded expression, she laughed. "Of course. That's why I love you."
Hiccup chuckled. "Because I lose track of time and focus on things for far too long?"
Astrid shook her head. "No. Because you're Hiccup Haddock, and you just wouldn't be you without it." She stood and extended her hand. "Come on. Dinner in the Great Hall is Yak, and the Forge is stocked with Gronckle Iron. Just don't kill yourself jumping off Toothless."
Hiccup smiled and grabbed her hand. "Thank you for your support, Milady. Where would I be without you?"
Astrid smirked. "Probably still in your room. Come on, Babe. Stoick wants to talk to you about Dragon Races."
Again, it's very short, but we all start somewhere. Hopefully, future one-shots will be longer.
Thanks for reading!
