They stood at the alter, staring into each others eyes, green on purple.
Hands trembled but held strong as the priest said prayers and hearts beat faster as the 'I Do's' came ever closer.
"Does anyone object to this Holy Matrimony?"
Alanna looked up, pulled out of her thoughts. She was worried because up until now she had been sure she could get through this service.
She gulped and George's hands tightened around her own, misinterpreting what she had meant.
Alanna looked around, staring at the people she knew and loved. She was searching, but for what, she did not know.
Suddenly, blue stared into purple, a question silently being asked but an answer that was unsure. Alanna looked from Jon's face to Georges and back again. Her heart beat faster and her bottom lip trembled.
Alanna knew that Jon would not speak up. He thought she was utterly and entirely sure of her decision, but was she?
She looked at George once more and saw worry over take love in that sea of green.
She was lost and torn between two decisions and her fate, once clearly set in stone, now crumbled and fell. For the first time in years, Alanna felt unsure.
If only
The priest began to say the final vows when scraping chairs were heard. Silently several men stood up.
"I object!" Cried Raoul, Myles and Coram in unison.
Wordlessly Gary apologized to George who in return nodded and smiled sadly. He looked down at Alanna and took her hand, which she had snatched up when the disturbance had been made.
He walked her down the steps and up the aisle until she came to a row up the back.
Jon stood, not taking his eyes off her. He and George seemed to have a wordless exchanged and the latter man passed over Alanna's hand, somewhat ceremoniously.
George stood back next to Thayet who was also smiling softly, but Alanna didn't seem to notice. All she saw was the sapphire blue in front of her.
"Are you ready?" Jon asked quietly.
Alanna stared at him, dumbstruck.
"For what exactly?" She asked in a some what suspicious tone.
"Well to become a proper lady of course."
"Pigs might fly."
With that they turned and walked out of the church, the lioness seemingly off the prowl for now.
