*** AKA Mel the Goddess!
Sometimes, when she's with the red head, she pangs for something more. Something more than comfort and security. Something more than amiable kisses and favours for old friends. Something more than an old flame that really dissolved when the magic of the school year ended.
Sometimes, when she's alone, she pangs for something more. Something to complete her, something to make her feel a lesser void inside. Sometimes she wants to feel a passion only invoked once before, in a moment of sin, of lost moments, of darkness, of youth.
Sometimes, when she's sitting at home with her daughter, she wonders what his child would have looked like. With her. What their child would have looked like. Would they have shared the qualities equally, with brown eyes and blonde hair and skinniness and the inability to tan? Would they have stood hand in hand over a bridge in the park and told her stories about enchanted castles far away? Would they have had a wedding with family, or eloped into the darkness of France or Italy?
Sometimes, when she's alone, she thinks about the greyness of his eyes. The spark that watched her, the electricity that pulsed through her on that one night when she thought the world was going to end because she was finally in his arms. The only night.
Sometimes, when she's alone, she thinks about looking him up. Because she's alone, he's not there, nobody is, and she needs someone.
Sometimes, when she's alone, she digs up the picture-book from school and touches his face with gentle, motherly fingers and whispers,
"Why, hello."
