December 15th, 1997

It's been several hours since I owled you, Harry. I told you it was urgent and I needed you right away. Now I know you won't be coming to the Astronomy Tower until long after it's over. Harry, can't you see that I'm drowning? Drowning in a pool of hopelessness...and I fear I'll never be able to get out. Severus begged me not to tell you of my mission for fear you would interfere. I cried and pleaded with him to reconsider but he was firm. However, now it won't matter. Now I can tell you why I've been so distant the last few months. The Dark Lord chose me for his next conquest. I was ordered to kill Dumbledore. Yes, that does mean I gave Katie the necklace and since that failed Dumbledore will most likely meet his end with nothing more than a glass of the Wizarding World's finest. Just so you know how to save the day once again, make sure Professor Slughorn doesn't deliver any packages to the Headmaster.

Anyways, I'm getting off track. By the time you read this I'll be gone. Please, please don't blame yourself. I love you, but sometimes love just isn't enough. I've been dying inside little by little and no matter how hard I try I can't hold on anymore. I don't know what the outcome of this war will be but I can't have any part in it. After all, what is the point? When the world is shrouded in shadows, all that remains is ashes. My father told me that one shortly before I was summoned. Merlin, Harry, I'm going to miss you and I'm sorry. This is one mission that even the Chosen One can't save. Don't you ever give up hope for a better tomorrow though. Just because I'm not strong enough doesn't mean you can't handle it. To everyone else, you're the Chosen One to save the world. To me, you'll always be the most loving person in my life who deserves so much more than I can give him.

I'm sorry, It has to be this way.

Forever Yours,

Draco

Just as Draco stated in his letter, by the time Harry got to the Tower, Draco had already surrendered his own life. As Harry traced over the tear streaked face of his dead lover, he vowed to find a way to make sure Draco Malfoy's name was not lost in vain.

"If you couldn't live for yourself, couldn't you have lived for me?" Those were Harry's last words before he lay is lover's body to rest for its eternal slumber.
