Because I Love You
The black SUV rolled slowly to a stop in the blazing desert heat. A car door slammed, quickly followed by another. A petite blonde woman stomped angrily to the rear of the vehicle.
"You can't be serious." She stared at the dark-hair man. He could barely meet her gaze.
"This is how it has to be." He stepped forward, thrust the car keys into her hand and brushed past her.
"No," she replied stubbornly.
"Get in the car, Claire."
"No. You can't just-"
He spun back to face her, eyes on fire. "Get in the God damned car!"
She shook visibly at the sound of his voice. She paused for a moment, as if there was more to be said. Only a cruel silence followed. Her fingers curled painfully around the keys as she as stomped towards the car and got into the driver's seat. The SUV rolled forward. Bright tail lights appeared, followed closely by the loud graunch of gears.
"She never could drive a stick." Peter watched the car reverse.
"Why?" her voice wavered as fresh tears rolled down her face.
"Because I love you."
