Prologue
Renesmee's POV
"Jacob, please," I said to him. He was driving us home from Embry's place. Him, Embry, Seth and Leah were the only ones from his who had decided to keep phasing. The rest had all grown up. Leah had decided to stay that way until she found an imprint. I always felt terrible for her. Embry decided to stay to so that Jake wouldn't be alone with Leah. Seth was staying to support Leah. We had all been at Embry's house for a meeting.
I had been hiding something from Jake ever since yesterday. That was a new record, because the imprint bond had let Jake know that I had a secret, and we both could feel it tugging at us. But this secret was big. Really big.
Yesterday night, I had discovered that I was pregnant.
Jacob had pleaded with me to tell him all day, and when I had finally crumbled under his will, he had reacted so different to what I had imagined.
"Nessie, it's dangerous. I remember when your mom had you, and she almost died. Our situation is different, though, but, Nessie, you still could die. You have a half werewolf, quarter vampire child. You could die," he repeated. I looked at his twenty seven year old self. He sensed my eyes on him and turned. I knew what he'd be seeing. A ginger haired twenty-five year old girl with pale features and deep brown eyes. He'd once told me that my eyes looked so deep that he could swim in them.
"Jake, come on! This is our child that we're talking about. If he or she becomes life threatening, then we'll talk. But please, Jacob, I love you. I don't want this to turn into how it was with my mom, because it's not how it was with my mom and it never will be," I said. We rarely argued, but this was important.
"Renesmee..." he groaned and I knew I had won. "I-" But he was cut off by the screech of brakes and the clash of metal. My head was thrown forward into the glove box. I felt warm hot blood trickle down my forehead. The airbag popped out a second later. "Nessie!" I heard Jake cry just before I lost consciousness.
Third person POV
When Jacob saw the truck in his lane, going the wrong direction, he tried to swerve. He tried to stop. But it was a cold winter night, and the road was covered in black ice. The two cars hit. The windshield cracked. Jacob's head banged into the steering wheel, but the gash was already healing. The airbag blew out a second too late. Jacob looked beside him, his thoughts entirely focused on one person.
"Nessie!" he cried when he saw the blood on her forehead. Her eyes slipped closed. He tried to move toward her, but his legs were stuck. He started to panic before he reminded himself that he could still hear her fast pulse. Jacob pushed and freed his legs. He crawled over to Renesmee, and carefully lifted her out of her seat. He held her to his chest, and hoped that arguing wouldn't be the last thing they ever did together.
