Ian put his hands in the pockets of his hoodie as he strolled down the street. Each shop was lit up nicely against the jet black Los Angeles night. He was off to find Anthony the perfect birthday present. Nothing too odd and sexual. That would cause⦠fan fictions. He shuddered. He knew fans could make anything sexual from gift cards to curling irons.
He passed a little boy walking out of Game 2 Trade with a game boy color. Hey that's perfect! They had had one of those as a kid. Spending long afternoons in the summer on pokemon emerald, battling meterosexual hipsters and evolving their pokemon. He strolls into the little main street shop and walks right up to the pizza-faced teenager at the counter.
"Are you selling gameboy colors here?" He asks.
"Oh my god, you're Ian from Smosh!" He exclaimed, "I'm sorry Mr. Hecox, I really can't help you out. We can't sell new game boy colors, and it's very rare that we get one anymore. We just sold the last used one we had in stock this month"
"Oh," Ian seems a little discouraged.
Then the cashier began typing furiously on a computer.
"But if you want to buy from the play 2 trade stores, there's one available for purchase in St. George Utah," He offers.
"No it's for Anthony's birthday. I need it now," Ian says, "Is there any way I could quite possibly get one tonight."
"There's an old lady a few blocks away that sells them in her thrift shop, on the corner. She's usually got several copies lying around. But no one really buys them," He shrugs and goes back to the computer.
"Okay thanks!" Ian yells, determined to the little store before it closed.
"My name is William. Please take my Survey on !" The cashier calls after him.
Ian rushes into the little shop at around 6 pm. An old lady dressed in a gauzy purple dress and large hoop earnings is sitting at the counter.
"Closings in five minutes," She growls getting off her stool, "What could you possibly need at this hour?"
"The kid at Play 2 Trade said you had game boys? I need one, it's an emergency. My friends birthday is tomorrow." She smiled.
"Ah, so you've come for the game boys and Pokemon games?" She cackles, "Come with me." She leads Anthony into the back room. It looked like a tornado swept through the place. towering boxes, piles of papers. An unfriendly musty smell, that filled the room.
"Now you've come to the right place boy," She grins, wrapping her pink and orange shall around her a little tighter, "sit down. Ian takes a seat on the uncomfortable rotting chair in the corner. The small old hag stands on a box, and takes one down from the pile of disintegration cardboard boxes.
"Pick your poison," She hisses, handing him the box. He immediately pulls out a green game boy color and a Pokemon emerald cartridge.
"Excellent choice," She says, "Now if you could just sign this contract. For posterity, of course." He signs with the quill and ink provided and throws an 100 at her.
"Keep the change," He yells as he runs out the door towards his car.
"Dude, are you sure this is video worthy? I mean it's just a present," Anthony says shaking the neatly wrapped box.
"Yeah, just turn the camera on. I already bought cupcakes, for lunchtime with smosh." He says. They sit down at the table and Anthony begins to film, They eat lunch and answer questions.
"Today was bitchin. But before we go, happy birthday Anthony," Ian says, handing him the box.
He opens it.
"Oh my god a gameboy!" Anthony smiles and turns it on. All of a sudden, a rainbow vortex appears behind them.
"What the fuck?" Ian cries.
"Hold on," Anthony says, as they are sucked into an unknown universe.
