A/N: a sequel to Lost for those who like a happy ending. You can see it as a stand alone.
And Found
She could sense him.
Nanao sat up in her futon, eyes wide.
That was definitely his reiatsu.
She was up and pulling on one of his old pink haoris that had been left at her place as she headed out the door.
He was sitting talking with Ukitake as if it were any other day. As if he had never been gone.
He looked the same as ever, minus his shinigami uniform, a pink haori still draped over his shoulders.
This was surreal.
It had only been a week since she had begun to accept he was gone; and now, here he was, sitting on the porch of the Jyuusanbantai staring as the sakura petals fell, drifting past him on the wind.
He looked the same as ever, but the exhausted strain in and around his eyes was telling enough; as were the scars that disrupted the stubble on the right side of his jaw.
Something had happened. It was clear he hadn't chosen to be away.
His eyes drifted to hers, those truth-seeing grey eyes of his, as he sensed her presence.
They stared for a moment, violet meeting grey.
Ukitake smiled slightly as he stood, resting his hand lightly on his old friend's shoulder in a 'welcome home' gesture, before he moved off, leaving them alone.
They continued to stare at each other, taking in every little detail.
Finally, finally, he opened his arms to her.
"Nanao-chan," he invited and that was all it took before she was flying into his arms, no hesitation.
"Nanao-chan," her name was a sigh on his lips.
"You baka," she whispered, holding tighter as tears threatened.
"Ouch, Nanao-chan," he moved his shoulder to loosen her hold on it a little and she could feel the bandaging beneath his clothing.
"What happened to you?"
"It doesn't matter Nanao-chan, it really doesn't matter right now," he held her tight and close. "I'm home."
She smiled slightly.
She moved about and they shared a sweet kiss.
Yes, his home was with her.
