Sherlock took a deep breath and nervously looked down at his feet. He had never done this type of thing before. He didn't normally express his feelings to people. "Um, John," he said. He heard a soft grunt from beside him. "I need to tell you something.". He cleared his throat and prepared for what he was about to say. "I think... I want... What I'm trying to say is... Well, I'll just come right out with it. Whenever I see you, I can't help but smile. You are the most remarkable person I have ever met, and I can't think of living another day without you. You have the most open heart of anyone I know. We have been through a lot, and although I usually would not say this, I wouldn't have been able to do it without you. You save me one day at a time. John, I need to tell you that—"
"I love you."
Sherlock looked up at John with a smile as large as his cheeks could stretch, but it faltered as he saw what was in John's hand. John was turning around as he pulled a phone down from his ear.
"Sorry, what were you saying, Sherlock?"
Sherlock gave a small smile as his heart fell to his knees, and replied, "Nothing, John. It wasn't important."
John smiled back as he turned around and walked away unaware of what Sherlock said, and Sherlock watched as John slipped through his fingers like sand.
