Hey everyone! I am really sorry about this for anyone who has been reading this story before i took it down, but i have decided to re-write the majority of this story because i really wasn't happy with most of it. Anyway, I hope you will stick with it because even though a lot of it will be the same as before, some major parts won't be and I hope you would like to read it again, but with it being better this time! Anyway, i hope you enjoy the first chapter (again)!
I didn't care about being strong anymore. I didn't care about being the hero I had trained so hard to be. I turned to face the Kraken and lost all hope for my future, for a normal life. I knew I couldn't fight this monster alone. I prayed to every god I could think of to send me help. I guess someone heard because out of the shadows strode Nico di Angelo. Great, just my luck. Now I had two problems to deal with – one a terrifying monster, and the other my ex - er - friend.
I backed away slowly from the monster, not taking my eyes off of it just in case it attacked. The ground was uneven and slippery because of the ice that covered the tarmac. I stumbled and fell backwards onto pieces of my broken boat which the kraken had kindly torn apart for me a few minutes before in the icy water of Norway. But that wasn't the problem; you see I am Maia – the daughter of Poseidon, so the water bit didn't faze me. However the small island sized monster did. I scrambled over the wreckage and into the shadows where the sleeping Nico lay.
'Nico, wake up!'
'Five more minutes….' Nico mumbled.
'No. You will not have five more minutes; we could be dead in five more minutes!' I shouted at him, when there was no response I lifted my hand and swung it down onto his right cheek smacking him in the face. I know it sounds mean, but it was either that or get killed by a giant squid so I thought he would prefer the first option. Well, it certainly got his attention. He shot up into a sitting position and shouted:
'What the f-'
I cut him off, 'we are about to be killed by a giant squid, so I'm not sorry if that hurt but GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASS AND HELP ME!' I screamed at him at the top of my voice. He looked shocked but got onto his feet all the same. One glance at each other and we knew what to do. We had fought many times together and knew each other's strengths and fighting techniques. Nico went in for the attack while I ran in front of the monster and created a gigantic wave to block its line of sight towards him. However Nico did something rather unexpected, stupid and potentially very dangerous – he stabbed the kraken in the tentacle and then darted back towards where he first arrived.
'Nico what are you doing?!' I screamed above all of the noise. The kraken swung around and advanced on Nico, but he was too fast. He swerved back and forth, side to side until he reached a black backpack which lay on the ground. The kraken was closing in now and Nico had no more than about ten seconds until he became a son of Hades chew toy. He unzipped the top of the bag and shouted over to me:
'Close your eyes!' snapped my eyes shut and there was a blood curdling roar which I presume was from the kraken because even though Nico had some weird tendencies he wasn't one to roar.
A few seconds later the noise stopped and I felt a tapping on my shoulder.
'You can open your eyes now.' I opened my eyes to see Nico standing about a foot away from me, his messy black hair blown in front of his eyes, smirking. I think I stared for a second too long because he looked at me funny and said:
'Maia?'
'What did you do?' I shouted at him.
'I turned it to stone, as you can see,' he gestured to the gigantic stone statue kraken standing in the middle of the harbour, 'with medusas head. Percy lent it to me as he said I might need it.'
'Oh, well I guess you did… thanks.' We stood there in an awkward silence before he said,
'Soooo…' I replied with:
'Soooo…
You know when people say: 'the awkward moment when…blahblahblah' and it isn't even that awkward? Yeah, well this was about that awkward multiplied by one hundred. So basically it was the extremely awkward moment when you fight a monster with your old best friend who just so happens to be the boy you used to like and he used to like you back but wouldn't say anything because he was afraid you didn't like him. Then you got into a massive fight using your 'demi-god powers' and almost kill each other and haven't spoken in around two years. As you can imagine, it was very awkward.
'How have you been?' I asked him.
'OK thanks, been up to much recently?
'No, not really, just killed a few monsters. You?'
'Same.'
Wow. This was uncomfortable. I looked down at my shoes and started fiddling with my hair like I do in awkward situations when I can't think of what to say next.
'You should know that I am really sorry about what happened, you know, before...' I said quietly trailing off as he replied.
'So am I.'
'Do you think we could forget about it and be friends again?' I asked slightly sheepishly, still looking down.
'You really expect me to put that all aside and be your friend again? After you almost drowned me?' My head snapped up to meet his eyes and the waves in the harbour started to gather more height.
'You sent an army of dead people at me! What was I supposed to do? Let them kill me? I am so sorry you can't get rid of me as easily as everyone else you attack.' I started shouting at him but he just turned aways. 'FINE, RUN AWAY! HOLDING GRUDGES IS YOUR FATAL FLOOR! EVEN I REMEMBER THAT. YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO GET OVER IT AT SOME POINT.' He whipped round to face me again with a cold almost sad look in his eyes. 'I'm sorry Nico.' I said in a quiet voice, 'I didn't mean to…'
'It's fine. It's not like I wasn't horrible to you too.'
'So now you're calling me a horrible person?' Sarcasm practically dripping from the words as I spoke them.
'Shut up.' He said with a smile. 'Friends?'
'Friends.' I confirmed. Then he looked down at me with a confused expression on his face and asked:
'Why are you here anyway?'
'I was on a quest.'
'On your own?'
'Yeah, I was actually sent to find, well, you…'
'Why?' he asked.
'It's bad, really bad…'
'What is it Maia?' he questioned, the look in his eyes got darker and his eyebrows scrunched together.
'The Titans are returning.'
Well thanks for reading! I hope you liked it and any reviews are greatly appreciated:)
