The Doctor adjusted his bow tie once more and pulled at his collar; he hated wearing this suit but Donna had insisted.

They were waiting outside a theatre in the West End for Donnas' granddad. He'd be given three tickets to the pre-premiere charity performance of Lord Lloyd's-Webber's latest project, The Wizard of Oz.

Sylvia didn't want to go, so that left Wilf with a spare ticket and this was how the Doctor had been shanghaied into going.

"Stop it," Donna said as she saw the Doctor once again fiddling with his tie. "I thought you liked musicals?"

"I do," the Doctor said. "But I hate wearing this thing and the little shop closes in five minutes and your granddad is late."

Donna glared at him. "You will behave yourself Spaceman. This is my granddad's night and it's for his favourite charity. So stop fiddling and for once leave off about the little shop. Here he comes now, so smile and behave."

Wilf apologised profusely until they took their seats and the Doctor was placated by a bag of jelly babies and they settled back as the lights went down.

Donna knew the story off by heart, but she was sure there had never been red swirling vortex in the middle of the cyclone.

In fact what was coming out of the vortex was definitely not one of the flying monkeys.

She hardly had time to react when panic fell on the audience as what looked like a witch on a broomstick flew over the audience and she ducked instinctively.

The witch began cackling and returned to the stage and descended to the floor and grabbed the poor young girl who was playing Dorothy.

"Where is the Wizard?" she screeched.

Donna looked over to her right to see if the Doctor was there...but of course he was gone.

"Where is the Wizard? I will turn this human into a puddle of water if he does not show himself!" she screamed.

There was puff of yellow smoke and to Donnas' disbelieve and shock, the Doctor stepped out of it and waved a hand to clear the smoke away.

"Alright, hold your horses or Braxis in your case. What do you want Morg?"

The witch's eyes glowed sulphurous yellow and she laughed. "You know what I want Wizard. I want what that little wretch of a girl stole from my sister."

The Doctor walked forward and Donna could see he was holding Dorothy's ruby slippers.

"You mean these? Now you know I can't give them to you. You know the rules, you have to wait until someone else finds the road."

"I will not wait anymore, it has been too long and that annoying Gelsa has turned everyone against me. Only my sister's shoes can give me the power I need. Give them to me, "Morag snarled and tightened her grip on the frightened girl."

The Doctor held the shoes in his left hand and was holding the sonic against them.

"Go back where you came from Morg, you know you have to wait. Not even I can bend the rules."

Morg looked at the Doctor and then with a snort of disgust dropped the girl. "I will go back Wizard, but trust me, next time I will win."

"We'll see," the Doctor replied. "Now go!" he roared and pointed his sonic at her.

There was a flash of light and Donna felt something bony digging in her ribs.

"Wake up Donna. I can't believe you fell asleep."

The Doctor was poking her in the ribs with his elbow and she realised that the theatre was nearly empty...she'd fallen asleep and...

"Wait a minute, what happened to the witch that came out of the vortex and the flying thing?"

The Doctor looked at her. "You must have been dreaming. The witch melted and the flying monkeys flew away."

Donna shook her head and moved off to find Wilf and apologise to him.

The Doctor waited until she'd disappeared into the foyer and moved the pair of glittering ruby shoes from behind his back.

"I really should get back to Oz more often," he sighed.
