A.N.: This is just a short drabble I thought up after the first episode of Season 3 which seems so long ago. I wrote it a while back, but I found it again and decided to post it. I hope you like it.
Disclaimer: I do not own The Vampire Diaries. Be it the books or the T. V. show which is what I based this off of.
The Mask
The wind moved through the trees, a peaceful sound at the moment. Peace has been hard to find lately. Peace of mind, body, or anything. Walking through the woods at night some would call crazy or creepy, but for him, it was a good place to clear his head. Plus there wasn't much that could harm him, so why would he be scared of anything, especially something as trivial as a dark forest? No, he definitely wasn't frightened. What had led him out here was another matter. He couldn't stop thinking of his brother. His brother, who saved his life, but in return lost his freedom, now he was out, God knows where with Klaus. He might have wanted to kill his brother once upon a time, but this, this is killing him. Most people don't see it, but he loved his brother, he will do anything for him. Plans he had made to find him, to take him away from Klaus were all but ashes now though. What happened can be summed up in one word, Andie. He had finally seen his brother, but it had come with a price, Andie. To lure him out, Stefan had Andie call him and once he arrived he had killed her as a warning to stay away. Well, he had never loved her, but she had grown on him. She hadn't deserved to die like that. That event had shown him that Stefan meant business. All hope left him afterwards. He couldn't believe that Stefan had done that, but it shouldn't have surprised him. Ripper Stefan does whatever he wants; this is not the Stefan he loves. That Stefan is gone and he might never come back. He had thought that maybe he could save his brother, but he can't. He can't do anything and it hurts, so bad. Plus he's stuck in this small town and he can't do shit about it. He has to stay and protect Elena. He may love her, but he is not the hero. He's not Stefan; he can't keep this up for much longer. Good is not in him. One day and he doesn't know when, he will lose it and everything will come crashing down, much like how Stefan's room did when he tore it apart. He can't handle this. Something has to change and change it will. Turning his head up to the sky, he sees the stars shining brightly; the moon is covered by a thin layer of fog. That is how he feels, like the moon with a mask hiding his true nature, waiting to come out. Something seems to change in his eyes. Once full of sadness, but now there is something different about them. No longer does sadness reside within them, a maniacal darkness starts to appear. A smirk appears on his ghostly face. His last thought before walking away is "his brother can't have all the fun".
A.N.: Please let me know what you think!
