This is my first fanfiction. I've had these ideas since I was seven. Please read and review on every chapter and the whole story in general. PM me too and tell me what you think!
PLEASE review!
Hey, there! My name is Akanthodis Kyverná. Want to make it simple? Just call me Spiny. Before you have the great pleasure of enjoying these stories and adventures, I'd like to tell you some things about me and the other main characters.
I'm a dinosaur, a Spinosaurus. In human years, I'd be 14 years old. I'm also the King of my country, Amarkia. It is mostly inhabited by dinosaurs and other extinct creatures. But Amarkian dinosaurs are much, much peaceful, creative, intelligent, and advanced than dinosaurs in movies or TV shows. But we still have humans as citizens and they come from pretty much everywhere. Our culture is even more diverse and varied than that of America. Here in Amarkia, we do not tolerate prejudice.
Anyways, Amarkia has existed for 95 million years.
I'm the absolute ruler of 20 million citizens. Amarkia is one of the last remaining absolute monarchies in the world. The others are Yemen, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Swaziland.
Oh, and I'm the richest guy in the world. Yep, I've got more money than Bill Gates, Rupord Murdoch, and all those famous multi-billionaires. Plus, I've got a secret underground room full with gold coins, diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, etc.
Oh! One last thing about me. I carry a special gold watch on my wrist. It's actually a hologram. So, I can change my form from dinosaur to human and back. Like in Megamind. I'll let you know when I change forms. And I live in a palace. Huge, luxurious, high-tech, and in natural scenery.
Now, on to the rest of the Royal Family. Oh, by the way! I'm an orphan. Yeah. It's a long story and right now we're focused on meeting the cast, so to speak.
First, my sister Katherine Kyverná. Well, actually stepsister. You see, when I was little, my real mom died of illness. I was an only child. And, well, my dad got involved in a lab incident that turned him into a human the rest of his life. A while later he remarried a woman business manager, and she already had a girl. That's Kathy. She's two and a half months younger than me. In Gregorian calendar years.
Now, Kathy is your typical 21st century girl teenager. Social, popular, chatty, pretty, likes parties, dating, etc. She has brown eyes, black hair, and wears a smile 80% of the time. Oh, and hot dogs make her lose control. Her title is Princess of Amarkia.
Now, we pause here.
My stepmom's twin brother, Uncle Kenneth, has a daughter exactly Kathy's age. Her name is Patricia Kyverná. Or just Patty. She's Kathy's cousin and my stepcousin. Now get this: they're both identical. I mean, it's like they're carbon copies. They look, walk, laugh alike. They can even mimic each other's accents to perfection. There are a few main differences. Patty has a slight Scottish accent. Kathy has no accent. Regular English-speaking girl. Her English is like that from New York. Patty's hair is the same type and color as Kathy's, but Patty's hair drops over the front of her shoulders. Kathy's hair drops over the back. And the two have opposite likes and personalities.
So, how did my stepcousin end up living with us? Well, Uncle Kenneth works for the Department of Foreign Affairs, so he was, literally, moving all over the world. When Patty finished elementary school, they were living in a city on the other side of Amarkia. It was then decided that Patty should stay in one place until she finished her education. So, she's been here since she was in the 6th grade. She's more calm and mature than Kathy. She likes the works of Mark Twain, William Shakespeare, Wolfgang Mozart, Ludwig Beethoven, Ernest Hemingway, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and…The Jonas Brothers. Yech!
Her title is Duchess of Pellegrine.
Sometime after Agapi—my stepmom—married Dad, they had a boy: Robert S. Kyverná. He's now in the 6th grade. He's curious, somewhat naïve, loves soccer, machinery, and hates girls. I don't think he's too far from his growth spurt. He's my half-brother.
And then later, came along Gregard R. Kyverná. We just call him Greeny. He's in the 1st grade. He likes baseball, is adventurous, sort of mischievous, likes to bother Robert, and always asks questions. They both hold the title of Prince of Amarkia.
So that's the Royal Family. Now, why are we all orphans? Why did I take charge of the family and become their legal guardian at the age of fourteen. Well, a little while after Greeny was born, a group or rebels killed our parents. At the time Kathy and I were ten, Robert was eight, and Greeny was two. When the throne was usurped, the four of us were sent into exile by the rebel group. That was in 1186 BCE. (Amarkians, dinosaur and human age very slowly; one year of our life equals 800 years in your calendar. So, like, this year, 2014, I turned 14. And I'll stay 14 for the next 800 years. Get it?) Then in 1073 BCE, I regained the throne staging a surprise attack. I got rid of the rebels and repaired all damage. However, I've never been able to find the guy who killed my father. That's why I feel so guilty, not been able to avenge his death.
So, now I have to be father, mother, older brother, king, and student, all at the same time. You get used to it. Still, it's fun to get to order adults around.
Okay, now moving outside the Royal Family.
There's Larry. He's an Eoraptor. He's my best friend, confident, companion and Chief Advisor. He invents lots of cool high-tech gadgets, and is super creative. But at school he acts naïve, clumsy, and basically stupid. I don't know much about his family or origins. He's kind of sneaky sometimes. Matter of fact, I don't even know how old he is. Oh, and he never falls in love. No matter how hard we tried, it never happened. He's goofy.
Then there's Dimetroodon. He's a…well, a Dimetroodon. He's not a dinosaur. He's a mammal-like reptile. He walks an four, broad, long-clawed feet, has short legs, a long tail, and a sail on his back. He's the nerd. Well, the other nerd. I also love science, art, literature, history, and chess. Every school year I end up with 150%. So does he. He wears glasses and uses complicated words which is maybe why nobody likes him. But he's a nice fella.
Next!
There's Darla Baker. She's a human. A long-time friend of the family. She's sort of a tomboy. She never wears make-up, nail polish, or anything like that. It grosses her out. She never liked earrings, or formal dresses. She loves skateboarding, basketball, videogames, and Western Drama films. Her blonde hair is always in two little ponytails over her shoulders. She always wears a baseball cap backwards, jeans, and a sweater or leather jacket. Her shirts are rarely girly. The most girly shirt she has is one with Daffy Duck's face on it. Her idols are Michael Jackson, Micheal Jordan, Tony Romo, Jackie Robinson, and the Brazilian soccer player, Neymar. Kathy and I think of her as our sister.
And then, there's…sigh…Lilia. The most beautiful, intelligent, friendly girl in the world. Caramel-brown eyes, long chocolate-brown silky hair, sweet perfume, and a cute smile that melts your heart. I've known her since we were seven. I know for a fact that she fell in love with me when they moved there. I think she still likes me. I didn't really start to notice her until some years ago when my last crush found out I liked her and broke my heart. However, Lilia is not my crush. I consider her my True First Love.
Oh, and last and most certainly least, two temporary characters. They'll only be in the stories while this school year is ongoing.
Kylie Anderson. Cheerleader captain, principal's daughter, and Official School Gossip. On the outside, cute. How is she really? Annoying, irritating, egocentric, selfish, rotten, spoiled, demanding, disrespectful, egomaniac, obnoxious, not very smart, ignorant, show-off, and greedy. And worst of all? She's been crazily obsessed with me for a long time, ever since her family moved here last year. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so desirable. She hates Lilia and is always using lies and trickery to try to make Lilia hate me.
And finally, Tyrone. He's a Utahraptor. He's the school bully, specializing in wedgies, stealing food, putting kids in trash bins, and being a nuisance. He's repeated 8th grade three times. So, he's the equivalent of an almost-17-year-old. He particularly targets 7th graders, Larry, and Dimetroodon. He's mean, intimidating, and hardly smiles. Just between you and me, he likes ballet dancing.
So, there you go! Let's move on with the story.
My palace is southeast of the capital, Sauropolis. It was August 2014. First day of 8th grade. The alarm went off at 5 am. took some turning and groaning, but I finally managed to push the snooze button and kick off the silk sheets. Hand-made, pure silk.
I stood up and…yawn…stretched real good. "Well," I said to myself out loud, "Ready for another year of this." I got up and put my watch on and changed to human form. Then I showered, washed my face, shaved, combed my black, wavy hair, and got all dressed up. Had to rub my blue eyes to wake up completely. At school, I prefer to be semi-formal. It's not required, but I like it. You know, striped collared shirt, beige khaki pants, and tennis shoes. I grabbed my school stuff and walked out of my super-mega luxurious bedroom and stepped out into the hallway.
I turned on the lights and walked down the hallway until I stopped at the girl's room. I knocked the door. "Kathy! Patty! You awake?"
After some quiet, Kathy said, "Yeah, be right down!"
I walked in the opposite direction. See, the girl's room is on one side my room and the boy's room is on the other side. "Robert! Greeny! Wake up! Time for school!" No answer. I knocked again. Nothing.
I opened the door and walked in. I walked up to Greeny's bed. The little guy was asleep as if someone had slipped a sleeping pill in his water. I kinda hated to wake him up so early. But he couldn't be late for his first day of 1st grade. I shook him by the shoulder. "Greeny. Greeny!" Finally, he opened his light brown eyes. "Five more minutes," he pleaded.
"Sorry, Greeny. It's time to get up."
He grudgingly sat up, stretched, yawned, rubbed his eyes, shook his head and grabbed some clothes and went to the bathroom they have in their room. His hair kind of funny. On the edges of his head, it's dark brown/black, but at the center it's somewhere between light brown and blonde.
Then I walked over to Robert's bed. "Robert! Rob! Wake up!"
He's a light sleeper so he got up faster. "What time is it?"
"It's 6 am," I answered.
Quick pause here. As you saw in the map at the beginning, Amarkia is an enclave within Egypt. That basically means a country inside a country. But we're independent. Nobody rules over us. Anyways, we're in the same time zone as Finland, Greece, and Israel. So that means that when it's 6 am here in Amarkia, it's 10 pm of the previous day in Dallas, 4 am in London, 11 pm in New York, midnight in Rio de Janeiro, 11 am in Singapore, and noon in Tokyo. Just a little FYI.
Anyways, I managed to get Robert awake and told him to get ready. I stepped out of their room and went down to the first floor where the Breakfast Dining Room and Kitchen are. I grabbed chocolate milk, eggs, butter, oil, and flour. I set two frying pans and started mixing the ingredients.
That's right. Pancakes! With your choice of blueberries, strawberries, pecans, bananas, or chocolate chips. Free now! Haa haa. Just kidding.
You might think that since I'm King and owner of this country I would have lots of maids and servants and whatnot, but no. I only have one butler, and one driver. I learned long ago to cook, sew, mend, wash, dry, press, and dust. I do half of the chores, while everyone else splits it in between.
Anyways, after a while breakfast was ready, and the whole family was sitting down, awake, clean, ready, and I must say, very good-looking. Even Patty put on a touch of make-up. And she rarely even touches the stuff.
I made pancakes, French toast, bacon, and fruit shakes all ready to be eaten. Cranberry shake for me, strawberry for Kathy, orange for Patty, blackberry for Robert, and blueberry for Greeny.
"So, how did my beautiful family spend the last night of our summer vacation?"
"Oh, please! Don't make it sound glamorous," said Kathy. "I hate to be reminded." She's not the studious type. She's more into boys than into Geometry or Chemistry.
Now, Patty's a different story. "I'm overly anxious to see what I'll learn this year," she said. She and I are the only ones in the family who get straight A+'s. Not A's. A+'s.
"How about you guys?" I asked Robert and Greeny.
"Well, I…" Robert started to say.
"He asked me!" Greeny interrupted.
"No, he asked me!"
"No, me!"
"Me!"
"Me!"
"Me!"
"Me!"
"Quiet!" I yelled. Sheesh. Those two have been at war ever since Greeny learned to walk and Robert learned to complain. Unfortunately for me, those two events happened on the same day. And ever since then, they're at each other's throats every day, all day, every year, all year long. It's become part of normal life. If they suddenly stopped fighting, I'd get worried.
But anyways, in those cases I have to act as Family Judge, and dictate a sentence in case things get out of hand.
But to get back to the story, after I yelled at them to get quiet, I said, "Now, listen, you two. I'm going to say this once while we're here. I don't want you to give me problems with your personalities. Remember, you are part of the Royal Family, and it's your duty to set the example."
Greeny raised his hand. "Yes, Greeny, what is it?" I said. Then, he said, "What does personality mean?"
Oh boy. I didn't have time for this. "Come on, Greeny" said Patty. "I don't think Spiny wants to go to school on an upset stomach."
"I'd say an empty stomach. He hasn't even touched his breakfast," said Kathy.
That was true. I hadn't had a chance to eat at all. Just what I needed. A cold breakfast and ten minutes to finish getting ready. Oh well.
Well, by 7:10, we had all finished breakfast, brushed our teeth, grabbed our backpacks, and stepped outside the front door into the early morning air. The fresh taste of late summer, but you could sense that autumn was coming. The sun's rays we're already breaking over the top of the trees.
We stepped into our sleek, super high-tech Royal Limousine. Super comfortable. Just for the Royal Family. Anyways, we stepped in and buckled up. Yes, I made it national law that everyone needs to fasten their seatbelts.
"Everyone buckled up?" said Phillip, out driver.
He started the engine and drove down towards the palace gates. You see, the Palace, and several other large residencies, and all the land we own are surrounded by 500-foot-high walls. It's got watchtowers, lookouts, and everything. The main gates are steel/gold and have heavily-armed guards. Each one has Roman-like armor, an M16 shotgun, a sword, and a large spear.
Anyways, once we got out, it was only about ten minutes to the suburbs. Our first step was Saurosuchus Elementary School. Phillip opened the door and Rob and Greeny stepped out. "Okay, boys," I said. "I want you to behave, listen to the teachers, and just…well, behave."
"We will," they both said. "Bye!"
"Good-bye" the girls and I said.
Once they both entered the school building, we moved on. About seven blocks down was is Sauropolis Junior High. Well, now it was our turn. Kathy, Patty, and I are all in the 8th grade. Was I nervous? Excited? Anxious? Happy? Stressed? Yep. All of them. I mean, being King is the top guy and everything, but remember, I'm also a teenager. That makes life very hard. It's hard to face all of this when you're considered adorable, popular, intellectual, and basically, a heartthrob. I'm not kidding. Every time I go into a room, all the girls scream like crazy and go running towards me. Why do you think I walk with Kathy and Patty? They defend me.
Anyways, we arrived at the school building. Three stories high with a ground-floor parking garage.
Phillip stopped just in front of the entrance. "Well, here we are," I said. I patted Phillip on the back and said, "Thanks, Phil. you can pick us at 3:45."
"Very well, Your Majesty," he answered. I turned to Kathy and Patty. "Well, here we go." Phil opened the door and we all stepped out. We said goodbye to him and after he left, the three of us turned to face the building.
And, so, with each of them holding my hand, we breathed deep, stepped inside, and…
