I've been getting back into dragons, (therefore ADJL) so I decided to write this.
For those who don't know, Jake's dad's name is Jonathan and his mom's name is Susan. I hope you like it!

Jonathan's POV
Ever since Hong Kong, my life has changed drastically. I feel like I'm really seeing my family for the first time. Jake comes home late more often, but both he and Susan explained that he was just doing his duty, which, apparently, is to protect the magical creatures in New York from some hunters called the Huntsclan. I don't like my son fighting against people who would consider killing him an honor.
When we got home, so much had changed. It took a while to get used to Jake's new responses to "What did you do today?" Instead of the regular "Not much.", I was getting responses like "I saved some leprechauns from a troll." Or "A bunch of satyrs had a party that got too wild and I had to stop an angry manticore from mauling them." Needless to say, it was quite a difference.
I haven't seen Jake in dragon form since Hong Kong. Haly, on the other hand, had started transforming pretty often. If we're watching TV or a movie, she'll turn into her adorable little dragon form and curl up with me, her mother, or-more often-Jake. He'd just give a soft smile and, not even looking at her, would stroke along her back and the back of her neck.
One Saturday, I went to ask Jake if he wanted to go camping next weekend, only to see him practicing martial arts (katas, I think they're called) in dragon form. I gasped in surprise when I saw him. I haven't seen his dragon form this close up before. Jake started, then quickly transformed back into human form. "Hey, Dad. I didn't hear you knock." He said, scratching the back of his head like he does when he is nervous.
"I'm sorry, Jake-aroo. I forgot to knock. Why did you turn back?" I asked.
He shrugged. "You sounded weirded out."
"Jake, I was surprised to see you in dragon form is all. I'm not 'weirded' out by you at all." I said. Jake still wouldn't look at me. "You're afraid I won't accept you." I said, realizing what was really going on. Jake flinched. "Oh, Jake." I hugged him tightly. "I will always love you, your sister, and your mother, no matter what." Jake sniffed and hugged me back.
"Thanks, Dad." He said, pulling away.
"Now, can I see your dragon form again?" I asked. He looked nervous, but nodded. He closed his eyes and transformed into a thin, long, red dragon. Two large red wings came out of his shoulders, he had a long tail, and short green ridges came out of the back of his neck, back, and tail. "Wowsers." I said, smiling at him. "I guess you're not as much of my little boy as you used to be."
Jake smiled, revealing long, sharp teeth. "Face it, Dad. I'll always be your little boy."
I smiled bigger. "Yeah, you're right." You'll always be my son, Jake-dragon or not. And now, I finally get to know the other side of you.
