Just something I needed to get out of my head..

Alone

She was lying in the hospital bed, waiting to greet the death as an old friend when it comes for her. Her disease had finally beaten her and she new the end was close. Her end.

The sun shining through the hospital window was gently fondling her deadly pale cheeks. The brightness in her ocean blue eyes was gone long ago and now only darkness, loneliness and pain was visible in them. She was extremely thin and her whole body was aching. Her once beautiful, blond curly mess of hair was replaced by a wig. She moved her head slightly and with a great effort, to look through the window and seing how beautiful the sunset was for the first time in her life Rikki Chadwick allowed one small tear to roll down her cheek, giving out all the pain she felt inside.

She missed that sunset so much. She missed Mako. She missed the moon pool. She missed the ocean and the magical coral reef. But above all this, there was something else. Something she missed most of all from the bottom of her heart. And that something were the few people she was proud to once call best friends and the man who was the love of her life and who was the only one that had managed to crack the walls she had built around her heart when her mom had left. Those people weren't there with her now, in that small, dark hospital room. They weren't there to share with her the last moments of her life. They weren't there with her, because..because of her. That had been her will.

One by one she had intentionally pushed them away from her as further as possible because she cared for them a bit too much to cause them the pain of watching her suffer every day and slowly die in pain. She was too powerful and too strong and she always got what she wanted, when she wanted and the way she wanted it. And the only thing she ever wanted was for her friends to be happy, even if that meant them having to forget her, and even if that meant the man she loved with all her heart to find someone who will love him as much as she did (even though she doubted such person existed). That's why she had pushed them away never telling them the truth, never confessing them about her disease and never giving them the chance to be by her side in her darkest hours when she knew she would need them more than ever. And she didn't regret about her decision at all. She wanted it to be that way.

A small cough of weakness escaped from her lungs. Suddenly she remembered all the happy moments with her friends. She remembered her races with the girls, her teasing that poor Will and Lewis had to deal with all the time, she remembered their sleepovers, their adventures, everything. She remembered all of it and her heart filled with so much emotions all over again. And right then and there, in the set of her life, she saw them all in front of her; Cleo, Emma, Bella, Lewis, Ash, Will and him, Zane. They were all there, next to her bed, smiling at her with so much love shining from their eyes.

Another tear, a tear of pure happiness, rolled down her face and she gave them her last smile. With that her ocean blue eyes closed with the last colors of the sunset mirrored in their final shine and one last breath escaped her lips, before her head leaned helplessly on one side. Suddenly the sun was gone and darkness filled the small hospital room that now had become too cold as the only person in it has just passed away, the light gone from her eyes forever.

The life of the great Rikki Chadwick ended in that dark, small hospital room.

She passed away completely and utterly...alone.
