Hide and Seek

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.

Dumbledore never thought he would see the day when Gryffindors and Slytherins were playing together like children, but there they were. He had heard from a painting that Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Seamus Finnigan, Dean Thomas, and Lavender Brown had been seen going into the Room of Requirement, followed closely by Draco Malfoy, Blaise Zabini, Pansy Parkinson, Theodore Nott, Gregory Goyle, and Tracey Davis. When he heard, he decided to use some of the powers allotted to Hogwarts Headmasters to discover just what such a group was doing together.

He pulled out what looked to be a pensieve. In a sense, it was. It would allow him to see what was happening through another person's eyes, but it didn't require memories nor did it have to be a past occurrence. The only stipulation for using the device was that it could only be used with Hogwarts students and staff. He ducked his head under the surface before focusing on Harry Potter.

The scene he found was surprising to say the least.

Harry was crouched behind a bush looking into a clearing much like in the Forbidden Forest. Leaning against a tree just to his left was Draco Malfoy who was counting aloud. Footsteps were pounding the earth on all sides and leaves could be heard rustling in the canopy above. On the far side of the clearing, Pansy Parkinson stood looking around hurriedly as though unsure of what to do. Making a quick decision, Harry jumped up, took off across the clearing, and grabbed her hand.

Once under the cover of trees again, he whispered, "Quick," trying to get her to hurry. Harry knew most of the Slytherins were hiding in pairs, but he wasn't going to let anyone lose just because their partner was seeker.

He pulled her about 100 meters into the trees before turning right, heading to circle back around the clearing they had named home base. The pair had only made it halfway when Draco's sonorus charm announced to everyone that he was done counting.

Harry pulled Pansy faster through the trees for about fifteen more seconds before they heard running coming in their direction from the clearing. He dived under the next bush, pulling Pansy under with him. He held up his hand silently telling her to stay put before crawling out on the other side of the bush. He began running again, following his intended path around the clearing, trying to draw attention away from where he had left Pansy to hide.

He had only made it roughly 20 meters before he was tackled by Draco's laughing form. The room announced that a new 'it' had been chosen, allowing everyone to make their way back to the clearing.

When Dumbledore saw that all twelve participants were not only unharmed but seemed to be having fun as well, he pulled out of the pensieve-like device. Chuckling to himself he thought, 'Severus will never believe this.'
