Rey quietly sat in the millennium falcon as she sensed his coming. Why today? Why did she have to do this today?

"Rey…" she heard the soft whisper from behind her and knew who it was in a heartbeat. Drawing out her gun, she turned to point it at Kylo as he stood behind her. "No." she said, gritting her teeth. She didn't have time for this today, not with the rebellion in shambles and the full weight of the Jedi Order bearing down on her. She couldn't bear him today. Couldn't resist him, and she knew he knew it.

"Rey, put the gun down. We both know you won't hurt me." Kylo said, in his strong, deep voice. She knew he was right but didn't want him to believe that. Stepping up closer to him, she aimed the gun at his heart, close enough that it could almost touch.

"Try me." She whispered fiercely, her voice almost breaking. Putting her finger on the trigger she tried to shoot but couldn't. Angry, she focused all of her being on pulling the trigger, but her gaze moved from the trigger to the soft sound of his breathing, and with that hesitation she broke. She couldn't.

Laughing at her hesitance, he took the gun out of her hand and tossed it across the room. "You see, I was right. You wouldn't shoot me." His smile mocked her, making her want to scream.

Letting out a sigh of exasperation she knew he had won and looked up into his eyes. "Why do we have to do this?" she asked, tired of playing games with him. He pulled her strings and jerked her around, she didn't even know how to respond to him anymore. Was he friend or an enemy? Did she hate him or did she… no… she couldn't? Could she?

"Do what?" Kylo asked, his eyes looking quizzically into hers. Annoyed and frustrated, Rey clenched her fist at her side. How could he not understand this?

"You know what I mean. Why do we have to play games like this? You know I stand with the resistance, and I don't want to do this anymore. I don't want to fight with you anymore. I just want to be done."

"Then don't fight with me." He said, his voice surprisingly calm and soothing. Too soothing. "Rey, it doesn't have to be like this." He placed his hand over hers and held it close to his heart. She felt his heartbeat become more and more rapid as she stood closer to him. Why was he so convincing? Why did he do this to her?

"Ben," she began, trembling, but her voice broke. Looking down she lost all will to fight him. Why did she have to fall for him? Of all the people in the universe it had to be him that held her heart, him that kept her awake at night, him that plagued her dreams. That monster in the mask. Did he feel anything? Did she mean anything to him? No…no. she thought. The only thing he felt was the undying feeling to quench the thirst of his lust for power. She was just a pawn. Everyone was just a pawn for him.

Gathering all the strength she could, she looked up into his face, looking at the scar she had given him in the woods. Her mark on him, maybe the only scar she could give him. She was so weak. So powerless to resist anything he said to her. All those nights she had lay awake, hoping that there was some light in him. All that had been in vain. Here as she stood, looking into his eyes she saw there was no light in him. And that's when she knew it. She had to do it, she had to at least try.

Trembling she looked into his eyes, hoping he couldn't sense her thoughts. "Hold me." She said, feeling his arms go around her and wishing she didn't have to do what she was doing. Across the room, unseen by him, was the lightsaber that she had repaired. The one that they had torn apart and left shattered. The one symbol of their broken relationship, and how it tore her apart every single day. Using the force, she took hold of the saber and moved it into position, almost as Kylo had done in Snoke's throne room.

Aiming the blade at him, she leaned into his huge chest and took one last breath before she moved her fingers and activated it, feeling the hot laser pierce them both through the heart.

Kylo screamed in pain and fell to his knees as she deactivated the saber and fell next to him, a matching hole burning in her chest as the one in his was. Crawling over to him and grimacing against the pain, she looked into his face and placed her hand on the wound in his chest.

Tears streaming down her cheeks, she mustered all the strength inside of her. "I did what I had to do…" she whispered, feeling her blood running out of her body and over him.

She expected him to laugh or mock her, but surprisingly she saw something come back into his eyes as he cupped his hand over her cheek and returned her intense gaze, "I- I know…" he said and finally whispered "…thank you.", as he fell back and died on the floor where she sat next to him. She watched as all life ebbed from his being and felt the same happen to her.

Laying on his chest she waited for the same fate to happen to her as her tears came in stronger rivers down her dirt-streaked cheeks. Finally, her breathing stopped, and she was softly lifted out of her body, becoming one with the force.
