Summary: She wanted him to paint her like one of his French girls.
She sits on the ground, hugging her pillow to her chest forcing herself to breathe.

She doesn't say the truth aloud. She doesn't say his name aloud. So she breathes.

"Misa, it's Light. Light, he's . . ."

She can only hear her heart thudding against her chest. She wishes—wishes that it would stop. Stop beating.

If only Rem was here, then maybe Misa could ask her to write Misa's name in the Death Note. Then Misa and Light could be like Romeo and Juliet. The star crossed lovers destined to die. Yes—yes that's it! They'd be destined. Destined to be together forever!

Out.
"Misa—Misa? Can you hear me? Misa . . ."

The wait had been pure agony. But she waited patiently because she knew it was only a matter of time and Misa knew time very well (she had halved her life twice after all).

A slight sigh escaped her lips as she applied the lip gloss. She glanced in the mirror and cracked a fractured smile that doesn't reach her eyes. Her eyes were done up, and the rouge had been applied. She looked like a shadow of her former self. She wears her favorite dress—the one he complimented—and teases her golden hair.

Out.
She doesn't see the smiling couples or the boxes of chocolates.

But she stops when she sees a single red rose. She pauses and pays the elderly woman, ignoring her remarks that the thorns will cut her.

No one can hear the noise her heels make as she walks out of the elevator and onto the roof.
In.
Out.
She stops. Her heels on the edge as she peers overhead, like a goddess watching her subjects.
Like Light's goddess.
In.
Out.
She smiles as she closes her eyes, imagining the future—sweet future—he promised they would have had together as god and goddess.
And for a second, she feels nothing but numbing bliss.

What a wonderful way to die.
A/N: Contrary to popular opinion, I love Misa's character. Even though so many fans dismiss her as petty and stupid, they shouldn't overlook Misa's impact on the plot.
