Just a little bit off fun!
"Hey Bones! Whatcha doin'?" Booth leaned over her shoulders and scanned the computer screen.
"It's called social networking, Booth. It's a great way to meet likeminded people with whom you share common ground. For someone like you Booth, common ground would probably be the appreciation of some TV show broadcast by Fox."
"How do you even know about Fox? Aren't you too 'highbrow' for them?" he joked, rubbing her shoulders absentmindedly.
"I know things." She scowled at him briefly, and he stopped his soft caress. "It shows that children's cartoon you like so much. The one with the baby? That you hallucinated?"
"That is no kids show Bones," Booth protested. "So don't be letting Parker or Amy's girls watch it. It is strictly adult entertainment."
Her mouth curled up in a smile. "Ohhh, it's 'that' kind of show. Ahh, now I understand."
"What! No! That's not what I..." He sighed and glanced at the messages she was rapidly posting. "So explain to me what's going on here."
"This is called Twitter. I'm presently talking to JaneHungOz. She's in Australia."
"No shit," Booth quipped dryly. "I'd never have guessed that."
"I know. That's why I just explained her location to you. Anyhow, she's one of a huge number of fans that love a forensic procedural show. On Fox. Now I think about it, I suspect that I might be in some way connected with this show. My publisher said a TV network had purchased the right to adapt my novels and change the characters enough to disassociate from my writing."
"Okay..."
"Well last Thursday, the show had its season premier and the fans on Twitter all worked together to get the show on the Trending Topics list by Tweeting #BonesSeason5 in excess. This had a rather profound effect in the media as it demonstrated just how much influence the fans of a TV show can have out in the real world."
"Bones? Like your name?" Booth grinned and rubbed his face. "I don't get why you're telling me this though?"
"Bones is not actually my name, Booth. Other people call me Dr. Brennan. Or Temperance. Or Tempe. Or Bren."
"Okay, I get it, Bones."
"So JaneHungOz was talking to some other fans this morning and they agreed that it was important that it hit the Trending Topics once more, to prove that last week wasn't just a fluke. And last night, one of the show's producer's SquareChicken suggested that the fans get it back on the list." Brennan frowned. "I don't think that is his real name."
"So what do all the Bones fans need to do?"
"They figured out that to get on the list you need a vast amount of tweets in a short space of time, ergo at 6pm Eastern Daylight Time everyone needs to tweet #Bones as many times a feasible."
"We're usually working or at the diner at that time," Booth observed.
"Ah, well, SuchAGoodGirl suggested the use of Twaitter, or one of the many other facilities available to pre-program your tweets if you can't be around yourself."
"Is that what you're gonna do?"
"Why?" she asked in all seriousness. "I don't even watch the show..."
