Title: To Your World and Back
Rating: M
Warnings: Yaoi, smut, mild violence, cursing...
Pairing: Black Star x Soul (SoulStar)
Disclaimer: I do not own Soul Eater, the plot, and the characters. I only write stories based on Soul Eater, the plot, and the characters.
Author's Notes: So, who likes a good ol' Soul Eater witchcraft story? This idea would not leave my head after I read a manga called Sugar, Sugar Rune. Plus, I enjoy a little drama and fantasy and I'm pretty sure as long as the pairing is soulstar, nobody is going to complain about the universe setting.^^ I don't have a beta because it's like nobody will respond after you ask them to. I asked TEN of them and none answered in a MONTH. That's why I'll just warn people from now on that my stories are all unbetaed, explaining why my writing is such crap. Well...
Please enjoy!^^
It was the dead of night in the wizard and witch world of Sukerūton. Funny may be the name, the world is actually filled with the most powerful of wizards and witches known to their kind, ruled by the one and only Lord Death. Nothing out of the ordinary in their terms happened in the world, in fact, life was just a joyful ride. You could see people gliding across the day and night sky on their broomsticks or quilts, street performers using their magic to intensify a show for onlookers, and many shops filled with majestic items and glowing goods.
Everyone was like a family toward each other and rarely were crimes committed in the cities. It seemed as though life was perfect for the citizens and there was nearly nothing to worry about. The Wizarding Council and police did their jobs, and there was always good news to share with people. However, it was one particular article that almost caused the world to create havoc.
Magic was starting to become an issue.
The world ran on two sources of magic, one of them being Kabē, and there seemed to be an unlimited amount so naturally, families could use as much as they wanted without the worry of replenishing. Unfortunately, poorer and more rural areas of Sukeruton began to experience shortages. Witches and Wizards around the area began to complain about the shooting sparks of their wands instead of rays of light and the government had to finally admit the new growing problem for the entire nation.
Because of this, street performers began to go broke, flying magical items were slowing down, business was beginning to run slow, and rations of Kabē were now given. Prices gradually began to rise on once affordable goods and it seemed as though everyone was beginning to lose it, barely smiling a day knowing that someday, Kabē would cease to exist.
If only there was a new source, or a place where they could gather Kabē to feed to their world...
" Hey, hey Soul. Soul. Soul." The voice continued to repeat the name until the owner swatted at the voice. Ash-blonde pig-tails drooped lower as if getting closer to the apparently sleeping figure.
" Wake up!"
" Dear God..." With slit pupils yet sparkling emerald eyes, the girl grinned a fanged smile and held up a news article that was published months ago.
" Good, you're awake. Come on, we have a mission to go to." As she bustled around, gleaming red eyes slowly started to appear in a tired and irritated manner. A slender hand rubbed the rest of the sleep out of the ruby orbs before the figure sat up on his bed, wondering what time he woke up.
" We just got back from school."
" I know but I had a discussion with Lord Death and I finally got us to be of some use to the city."
" Good night-"
" H-Hey! Get up already! We can't afford to be late. The portal is only open for exactly twelve minutes. We don't have much time considering how much of a heavy sleeper you are." This definitely had the male up and he stared at his 'friend' in a suspicious manner.
" Portal? Where are we going?"
" Oh, it'll only take a couple months." The other hesitantly said with an uneasy look.
" Wha-"
" Up! And grab your wand, we're going to be out for a while as I said."
A while...
With much effort and dragging, the two teenagers were out of their apartment complex in time to head out on the street. The sky had a deep shade of purple with electric blue stars hovering brightly. The cotton candy pink, yet feathery clouds laid low and created a misty look on the top of buildings. It wasn't strange for anyone that a moon grinning blood from its fangs was looking down upon the city.
" Maka, where are we going?"
" We are going to help restore the Kabē and Enerugī in Death City!" Enerugī is the other power source, Kabē being green and Enerugī was blue. Enerugī was slightly more powerful than Kabē but both had their specialties. As the two mounted their brooms, the other couldn't help but give the blonde girl an incredulous look. Never had he heard such an idea since there haven't been any energy sources discovered yet. Hope had been lost for some people and the thought of finally having a chance of helping the nation regain their popular demand would have sprung hope for many. However, he was still a little unsure of the whole situation.
" Why am I suddenly involved in this? How did you get Him to open a portal in the first place? Only three star wizards and witches can do that. You suck."
" Oh shut up Soul! I'm just a minor that's why it's not allowed. However, Lord Death has really high faith in us despite us being underage. It took hours of trying to convince him AND the wizard council AND setting everything up after I discovered a possible solution to this whole mess. It's been months and nobody has been doing anything about it," They kicked off and rode in through the misty clouds as their brooms soured higher," Of course I couldn't do this alone and you were the only trusted partner I knew that would take risks."
" I still wouldn't have come."
" But you're already here so deal with it. Who knows, if we manage to prove my theory we could become two-star wizards."
" Witch and Wizard, tom-boy."
" Oh, shut up already!"
After the cool-winded ride, they made it to the large palace where Lord Death and his son lived. They arrived down on the golden steps and they could make out a bright, purple glow around the back of the palace.
" He must have been waiting for us. Hurry!" Maka stated with a flustered look.
" Alright, alright sheesh." Both wasted no time in getting through the facilities since time was running short. As Maka had stated, the portal only opens for twelve exact minutes. After a few slow-downs, they were sure to have less than five now.
" Ah, they finally showed up." A jaunty voice stated. Lord Death was a very large figure that could tower a six-foot man with the mask or face of a skull. Nobody really knew what hid under that white skull. What was even more confusing is that such a voice used for him was too weird to distinguish." Well, well, we had better get you guys going. Is everyone ready?"
" Wait a minute, I was wondering," Maka spoke as she and Soul made their ways in front of the ancient-patterned platform. The one where they soon would be transported to a different world, dimension even and it would be a while before they could come back to their home-world," Doesn't transmitting a time-traveling spell take a lot of magic? It normally takes out a high-leveled wizard and it damages your health. Considering your our leader, you should have left this task to someone else." She had a small look of worry but Lord Death only metaphorically smiled.
" Right you are, Miss Albarn. I understand you would voice your worries but you shouldn't. Think of the bright side, I am sacrificing this for a chance to gain even more magic. As you said so yourself, there may not by just this wizarding world where magic exits. You thought outside of the box, or the universe in this matter. If your theory proves to be right, you two could end up saving us all."
" But... what if I'm wrong?" She asked hesitantly," I understand that I researched this thoroughly and even experimented it, but we're just minors. I'm still wondering why you decided to listen to me." She added in a slight accusing manner. It was normal that adults or powerful wizards wouldn't take children or weaker people seriously. This was also another reason why Maka wanted to do this. Her childhood had been most difficult mostly because of her father and being the loner, she wouldn't have gained friends if it hadn't been for Soul. It was quiet for a moment before the much higher-leveled wizard spoke again.
" Why, you both would dead of course!" Red and green eyes widen but he dismisses this," Besides, isn't this your goal? To finally prove that you guys are capable enough of becoming three-star wizards and witches? Only the most determined ones earn that spot, you know and here you both are, taking the jobs what most qualified people wouldn't have done."
" ...I know that but, I'm starting to feel a bit doubtful now..."
" Nonsense! Well look at that, two minutes now. Into the middle!" The guards hurried the two teens onto the center of the glowing platform and Soul sighed.
" You had better not kill us."
" W-we'll be fine! I read up enough that there is a high possibility of another universe existing according to-"
" Do me a favor and shut up."
Before the small squabble could continue, with much left of magic he had, Lord Death summoned the portal and all there was left is the final countdown.
" Now listen carefully you two," His voice sounding as though he was mustering up all his little strength," I haven't told you but my son agreed to go along with this as well. I had him leave as well and unfortunately, there is no source of communication. That would also explain why I'm in this weary state. If all goes well, you both will meet him wherever you guys are sent, other wise..." Everyone's chests tightened at the dark thought and the soft ringing from the hand-made device pushed the thought out." If the experiment goes well however, you can guarantee that your star status will go up! The community will be deeply in your debt so I suppose that would be an award worth enough!"
Ten seconds.
The blinding light began to slowly take over the two teens, and they waved, casting each other weary looks. This mission must have meant a lot to their own leader.
" And one more thing!," Maka and Soul slowly began to feel the ground disappearing," While you guys are gone, try to see if you can establish a form of connection to here! We'd never know when you guys need to come back of course!"
" Ah! Yes si-!" They were gone.
Lord Death chuckled weakly when almost in a flash, the two were taken from the portal and he collapsed. The guards voiced their concerns and shock before running to help. One man looked at where the young teens had originally stood as his team tried to sustain their leader up.
I hold my trust in you two.
Please save our world!
" Ow!"
" Huh... the ground broke my fall." Maka felt for her fallen wand when she stated this.
" That's because you are on top of me you idiot!" Soul exclaimed underneath her.
" W-woops..." After situating themselves and standing up, the two found that they had ended up on the street. Maka looked up with furrowed eyebrows to see a blank faced full moon out, along with the lighted dark sky. She noticed that the stars weren't blue, but in fact, shining brightly in silver and gold. The clouds were not pink but misty white." Where... are we?"
" Heck if I know. Even the buildings are weird. Look." Holding up his wand, one flick and a red light guided as a flashlight and their visions were increased. The buildings were built slightly close towards each other and most were tall with many windows, something very uncommon in their world. Wizards would build unusual shaped facilities and houses that were spread far apart from each other because of the unlimited land supply they seemed to have. Plus their universe wasn't exactly crowded but enough to show that their race wouldn't be dying out any time soon.
" And the grass, it's green!" Maka breathily exclaimed and kneeled down to examine it, her wand flashing a green light.
" Are you sure it's not because of your light?"
" Positive. Here- flash yours." The reason why the color of their magic are different is because Soul's wizarding family had many famous generations back, and he gained the powers of his ancestors. This is something that was very rare and succeeded by special wizards. Soul only knew that he and his mysteriously disappeared brother managed to do. Only unique wizards and witches had their own color of magic. Although Soul doesn't exactly find himself unique.
Their slit eyes looked down at the lush green ground underneath black boots and flats. Sukeruton's grass would have been dark blue so that was why they had a double-take at all the bushes and trees surrounding the empty area as if they were awe-struck tourists.
" Is it possible that my theory was correct?," Maka stood up and looked at Soul excitedly, who was just thanking Death that he was still alive," That means that his son is here, and there may be-"
"-High levels of magic source, correct you are." Both heads whipped around and both jumped back when a person who was slightly taller but looked of their age stood there with a small smile." I'm guessing Father sent you both here as well?"
" 'Father'? Oh, you must be Lord Death's son." Maka concluded and the teen with onyx black hair yet three white stripes that went half-way around his head nodded.
" I'm Death The Kid," He greeted," And you two must be Maka and Soul."
" Yeah, that's us. How long have you been here?" Soul said and Kid beckoned them to follow him.
" I've been here for a few hours, before you two came of course. We're indeed in a parallel universe,"("Yes!" Maka exclaimed)," And it seems that despite the beings have no magic here as I noticed, nature here has a very high rate of resources that we could gather. I already have a place for us to stay and starting tomorrow, we'll start investigating this area. I believe you both have your wands?"
There was a nod of confirmation and they didn't walk very far to what looked like a mansion.
" How did you afford this!?" Maka asked as they walked into the sleek mahogany door and were met with the sight of a very spacious living room and kitchen of the same size. Every window had see-through velvet curtains and the white couches looked as though you could sink in the large cushions. The kitchen had a large marble counter sitting in the middle with four designed high-chairs sitting two to a side.
" Sukeruton's currency could be different you know." Their currency was called Takki and are large, silver and gold coins. The shape of Lord Death's face was implanted in with the amount on either side.
" Well, don't tell father but," Death The Kid held up his wand," I did a little convincing with the land lord(knocked him out) and he doesn't exactly know that he's in the Sahara Desert at the moment..." They laughed and Soul and Maka were shown to their rooms, which were nearly the size of the living room as well." You both will be staying until further notice. I suspect Father wants us to figure if we could create a connection from here to our world or else we'll be stuck here for a few months if, even forever."
That wasn't the type of good-night they wanted to here.
Nevertheless, after separating, everyone went to bed to store their energy for tomorrow. It was suggested that gathering Kabē and Enerugī was going to be a hard task, seeing as they were both minors and couldn't exactly get past changing benches into baby dragons. However, they were all doing it for the sake of Sukeruton and their mission must have been announced already so there was no turning back.
Good Luck.
And that's all for now. Don't mind any mistakes I made, I tried to make things as accurate as possible. And the new terms like Kabē and Enerugī you learned in the story, it's alright if you don't know them. I merely made all that up, along with the currency and the name of their world. I was just trying to be creative and be a little original since this is indeed, an AU. Things should start to pick up in around chapter two or three and they may be a longer length. I'm trying to grow fond of 3,000-4,000 words per chapter now.
Please favorite, follow, review and I'll see you in the next chapter really soon!
Chow!
