Standard disclaimer: White Collar and all the characters are not mine and are used without permission. I am not getting paid for this.

A/N: I am still working on New York Burning but this bunny nipped me on the arse so I had to write it. Plus, I really dislike Kate now, and I had to vent somehow. Enjoy! BTW... Yes, mild slash warning, so if it bugs don t read and complain later.

"Hello, Kate," he glared at her as she came into the room.

"Hello, Peter," she paused at the door turning on the light.

"We need to talk about Neal," he sighed.

"I guess we do," she agreed leveling a gun at him, her face rather cold.

"Kate, put the gun down," Peter's eyes met hers. "You recognize this?" he displayed the ring on his hand.

Kate's eye's blinked for a second but she stood her ground.

"Yeah, I've got one too. Just like Fowler," his eyes searched hers for any sign of recognition.

"Who?" she asked trying to maintain her cover. Once a con, always a con.

"Shoot me or put the gun down," Peter stated, hoping for the latter. She DID seem a little shaky, but having to take a bullet for Neal, well if that saved Neal he'd do it.

He relaxed a little when she laid the gun down.

"It's been awhile," Kate stated.

'Not long enough,' Peter thought. "Five Years. First time I caught Neal," he recalled that bust clearly and how Kate had seemingly professed to always be there for Neal, and had choice WORDS for Peter for being the one who caught him.

"What do you what?" She sneered at him.

"Leave Neal alone," his voice was an order, but there was the tone of deep concern in it.

"I can't do that," Kate rolled her eyes. She was starting to understand something here.

"Why not? What does Neal have that you so desperately want?" he paused trying to read her face, her movements and everything. He knew she'd conned Neal, and Neal still loved her. "I can get it for you."

"Why would you do that?" now she wanted to see Peter squirm. Make him admit something to her.

"Why? Because he's good. And you're not. Because he's the smartest guy I ever met. Even smart guys can fall for the wrong person. AND I'm tired of watching you twist his heart around. It's breaking my heart. He s my friend. Let him go! " Peter ranted.

Kate paused considering. "Neal stole a piece."

"He's stolen a lot of things," Peter countered glaring at her again.

"This one is special. It s a music box. That's my price," she gave him a devious smile.

Peter walked over to her holding off the urge to hit her. "Did you EVER love him?"

"Apparently not. But YOU do don't you?" she countered relishing the pain in Peter's eyes at that moment.

"Yes I do," he admitted.

"I could have killed you, left your bleeding body here, Neal would have believed whatever I told, him" she taunted.

"Why didn't you, then," Peter countered.

"It's more fun this way," she laughed coldly. "He won't trust you, Peter. He loves me," she pointed out.

"Tell Fowler I know and I'm not backing off," he warned her.

She nodded. "Don't push him. Goodbye."

Peter cliped recorder off. "I got you, bitch." He knows Neal will now hear how he feels about him, maybe it's time he knows the truth about everything.

Peter replays the last bit to make sure the recording is good

'He won't trust you, Peter.' resounds in his ears.

'He will to, Kate,' Peter smiles. 'And maybe in time I'll see love reflected in those soft blue eyes of his,' he hopes, knowing Neal will heal from the loss of the evil one named Kate.

The end.

A/N: I will write a sequel fic soon....
