"Tim, wake up! It's almost seven in the morning!," shouted Tim's mother.
"Uggghhh."
"Do I have to go to school today?," Tim replied, in a groggy and half-conscious tone.
"Of course you have to," replied Tim's mom.
"And don't forget, it's an important day for any Pokemon trainer."
"Crap!" Tim screamed in my head.
"How could I forget?," said Tim.

Realizing the importance of today, Tim quickly hopped into the shower, dried off, and started to get ready. He put on green-plaid shorts, a deep blue shirt, a gray hoodie, some ankle-length socks and a new pair of black shoes. He put on his black messenger bag, then went back to his room. He grabbed his lone Pokemon, and set off for school.

"Hey Dan, wait up!," yelled Tim to his friend Dan, running to catch up.
"Why are you so late?," said Dan as he slowed down to let Tim catch up.
"I woke up late," explained Tim.
"We better not be late," replied Dan.
"Trust me we'll be fine," said Tim. "You ready to finally be able to start collecting Gym badges?," Tim asked Dan.

In the past, trainers began their journeys at the young age of ten. In modern times, however, this practice was deemed very unsafe, so the age was bumped up to sixteen. So now every trainer was allowed to legally own Pokemon at ten, but couldn't journey until sixteen. Despite this, they have to be in groups of at least three. Tim and Dan made up two members of their group, along with Drew.

"Of course," said Dan.
"Will you be doing Contests as well?," asked Dan.
"Eh, I don't know yet. I might do both," replied Tim.

Reaching the school campus, the two boys sent out each of their lone Pokemon.

"Go Togekiss!", yelled Tim as he threw his Friend Ball.

Togekiss came out with a big grin on his face. Soaring into the air, he does a few in-air somersaults before settling next to Tim.

"You really like to show off, huh?," said Tim to Togekiss.

As Tim sent out Togekiss, Dan sent out his Leafeon.

While many students their age had nearly a full-team, Tim and Dan couldn't afford Pokeballs due to the ridiculous tax put on them for trainers below sixteen. These two boys got their Pokemon by accident; Dan found his Leafeon as an Eevee, all alone and abandoned outside. Tim recieved his Togekiss as an egg from the Sinnoh champion Cynthia.

"Finally, my family will actually be able to afford Pokeballs," said Tim, with an air of excitement.
"Haha yeah, mine too," said Dan.

As the two boys walked into the auditorium Tim's Togekiss flew behind them, playing with Dan's Leafeon.

"Hey guys, where've you been?," said Drew, his Kecleon following behind him.
"Well, Tim here decided to sleep-in," said Dan in a sarcastic tone.
"Hey, we got here on time, didn't we?," replied Tim.
"Well, we're about to be called up," said Drew. "Get ready to go."

"Tim, Dan, and Drew," said the principal's voice. "Come up here to recieve your Pokedexes and Pokeballs.

As Tim went up, he could see his grandma, mom, and sister in the audience. He recieved his Pokedex and Pokeballs, and went down to greet them.

"I'm so proud of you," said Tim's family in a creepy unison.
"Thanks for coming everyone, but I really need to get going," replied Tim.

Before Tim left, he hugged his family and caught up with Dan and Drew.

"Where's the first city we're going to?," said Dan.
"Well, the first Gym is in Violet City, but we'll pass Cherrygrove before we reach there," replied Tim.

"Well that's a long way to go, so let's get moving," said Drew with a smile of joy on his face.
