Title: Remembrance

Summary: Remus reflects on the newly come springtime with glumness. And he reminisces.

Disclaimer: I own nothing from Harry Potter. This honor goes to the ever-fabulous J K Rowling…

Remus Lupin sighed. The first rays of the sun had woken him from deep slumber. And now, he sat wearily against the old over-stuffed couch in the den.

His odd intuition told him it was mid-March.

He walked stiffly out of the quaint little house into the open air. Everything was new.

It's Spring again… he mused to himself.

Lupin bent down and felt the fine grains of soil in calloused hands.

And everything was new, or renewed.

Except for one thing, he realized.

The werewolf walked to the backyard of his cottage. The shed had a dank scent to it, as if it had never been opened. The werewolf opened the door and wrinkled his nose as the smell hit him.

And that has to be cleaned out as well…

On the four wooden walls hung utensils for gardening, a pastime Remus had taken up after James and Lily's deaths.

The hobby was calming and helped him relax.

Standing for a moment, he chose a shovel and hoe.

The twenty-eight year old wizard walked haphazardly into the back yard and began to yank out all the weeds.

Finally, it was getting too dark to see any longer and he put the tools up.

Turning, he looked at the starry sky. The waxing crescent moon seemed to smirk at him. It would be full soon.

But Remus' eye was caught by the brightest star. Sirius.

I can't believe you would do that... After all these years, I am still incredulous... Why? Did the Dark Lord offer you power? Did he offer you everything you wanted that we, I, could not give you? Why, Sirius, why? Why did you betray us all?

He glared at the star, as it shined adamantly on through the bleak darkness.

You don't feel my pain, Black. You just don't understand…

And a small woof brought him back to his senses. A black dog barked at him.

Sirius?

Remus felt arms embrace him. He closed his eyes. It would all go away if he looked.

A voice, surreal as it was, whispered something.

"Remus…" the voice was ghastly quiet, barely audible.

"Remmie… I didn't mean to… I'm sorry…" The voice was sobbing, almost, and heartbroken.

And then it was gone.

The illusion disappeared. Everything was blissfully peaceful again.

"I forgive you…" and as soon as those three words left his lips, everything seemed right again.

Spring was truly in the air.
