It's another humid day in Philadelphia as a heat wave makes its way in from the west.
A small group of senior citizens sit beneath a small, shop canopy busying themselves with a challenging game of chess, while the neighborhood children play a game of water balloon wars.
Music drifts out of an open window above the shop. A breeze flows into the window and the curtains dance open.
A young woman dances infront of a mirror to the music, while singing along to the tune.
" Hit me baby one more time!" Dancing away from the mirror and over to a dresser, she picks up a pair of earrings and puts them on. Dancing back over to the morror she studies her reflection, running her hands over her leather mini-skirt and sheer see-through top.
" That I'm the only one you could see!" She smiles and winks at her reflection, " Girl, you are going to knock them dead! Those agents are going to be throwing contracts at you!" Smiling even more she walks over to the radio to turn the volume up more but stops when the phone rings. Grabbing the phone off the nightstand she answers. " Hello."
" Hey Babe, you ready to go?"
" Hey Gary, yea, just give me a minute and I'll be right down, alright."
" Sure thing, sexy!" Giggling at the petname she set the phone back down.
Taking one last glance in the mirror to make sure everything was in order, she grabbed her purse and jacket and headed out the front door. Locking the front door she didn't hear anyone sneak up behind her and place their hand on her shoulder. Turning around swiftly at the contact she let out a surprised gasp. " Issac! What are you doing here!" She let out in one short breath, shocked that he was actually standing infront of her.
" Hey, Sara," He said nervously. " Nice to see you too."
" Yea, it's good to see you to, but what are you doing here," confusion lining her face.
She noticed the hazy look in his eyes. He was a mess, his eyes were red and puffy, a result of too many hours spent crying. His hair was tossed and unbrushed and his clothes were wrinkled, as if he had slept in them. And he had a look in his eyes that she was all to familiar with. Desperation.
" What? So now I can't visit my favorite sister?" She smiled at his little joke. She was his only sister he had been pulling that on her ever since they were kids, whenever he got on her bad side.
" Of course you can! Its just-."
" You have to come home, Sara!" He interrupted, catching her off guard.
" What"
" Please! Come home!" He begged, the desperation in his eyes even greater than before.
" I can't." was all she said, in a voice so small she was surprised she actually heard it herself.
" Yes you can! You just don't want too!"
" No! Issac, that's not true! You know that I can't, it's not allowed." She started to walk away when he caught her arm.
" Yes you can! I'll make them listen, I swear it! You belong at home with us, with Abe! Please Sara!"
" No, Issac, I don't." She said pulling her arm free, watching as the desperation in his eyes turned to anger.
" Father was right!" He stated, pacing frantically and brushing his hands through his shoulder length brown hair.
" Hey!" Both looked up to see a tall man with spiked blonde hair walk towards them. " What's goin' on here! this guy botherin' ya, Sara?" he asked his gaze going over the form of the kid infront of him.
" No. It's alright, Gary."
" Ya sure?" He asked looking over his shoulder at her.
Shaking her head she looked back to her brother. " Go home, Issac." Was all she said as she turned to walk away.
" Sara, please! It's mama, she's sick. Doc says there's nothing more he can do for her. Please, it wouldn't be right if you weren't there."
Mama was sick, her mama. She couldn't help it as a single tear slid down her cheek. Even though she loved her mama she knew it was impossible for her to return. Embracing her brother in one last hug she placed a kiss on his forehead. " Send mama my love." Turning around she placed her arm in Gary's and walked out of the building, but not fast enough.
" Father was right! Your just a whore! And if you don't pay for it now you will in hell!"
