Alive
Why?
I may be a nation.
A piece of your land.
But some part of me is still human.
I am alive too.
Was that all I ever was to you?
Money?
A piece of land to sell to others?
True, I am not a country.
Just a part of you.
But I have feelings too.
My heart pumps blood just like yours.
I inhale in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide.
Just like you.
I am alive too.
How could you just sell me?
Just dump me like a sack of potatoes to America?
For what?
Money.
Is money more important to you than me?
Do you care more about 7.2 million dollars than me?
I am a piece of land.
I am human.
I have feelings.
I have thoughts.
I am alive.
Money is not.
What did I do wrong?
I did everything to please you.
To make you happy.
And you sold me.
You sold me for 7.2 million.
Left me with America.
Abandoned me.
Why?
I am alive.
I am not just a piece of chess for you to move.
I am not a bag of money.
I am not your slave.
Once you told me that home was where you were.
Not anymore.
The moment you sold me, left me, your home wasn't my home anymore.
I am no longer Alaska, one of Russia's colonial possessions.
I am Alaska, largest state of the United States of America.
And I am proud of who I am now.
I am not a piece of chess to be sacrificed in your game of politics.
I am a state.
I am alive.
