"Here comes goodbye
Here comes the last time
Here comes the end of every sleepless night
The first of every tear I'm gonna cry…"
"Yes!" I walked quickly around the table and pulled Mike into my arms. It's what I'd been wanting him to ask since we first started dating.
"What brought this on?" I asked him as I wondered in my head because it was just last week he told me he didn't want to get married.
"It just seemed like the right time." Was his answer as I hugged him tightly again.
"I love you," He told me as I saw it; what Mike had been looking at. Was he only marrying me because Susan is getting married? Is this proposal even real? My happiness soon faded to questions, but those questions had to wait for their answers. I put on a smile and finished fixing my flower arrangement.
Over the next few days, I was trying to process what I was going to say to Mike. This could turn out bad or it could turn out good. I walked in my house from a long day at work and saw Mike sitting on the couch, drinking a beer: the perfect time. I put my purse and keys on the table and began talking.
"Mike, can I talk to you?" I looked towards him as he looked back at me.
"Sure, what's up?" I walk closer to him and take a deep breath.
"Are you still in love with Susan?" I looked directly into his eyes and as soon as he said it I could tell he was lying, "Katherine, we've been over this before."
"I know we have, but I just can't shake this feeling I have." Mike got up and walked to me which started to make everything feel worse.
"What feeling?" Mike tried to take my hands in his own, but I stopped him.
"The feeling that you only proposed to me because Susan and Jackson are getting married." I looked down at my hands.
"You know that's not true." Mike tried to convince me, but I could see he was just as scared as I was.
"Do I? It was just last week you said you didn't want to marry me. Then out-of-the-blue, while watching Susan and Jackson, you propose. You didn't even seem prepared." I expressed my feeling with him.
"Just because I didn't have a ring doesn't mean I wasn't prepared." Mike steps closer to me and I step back.
"No, but being in love with your ex-wife does." I looked up at him once again.
"Katherine, I'm not…" I interrupted him before he could continue, "I can see it in your eyes." I looked deep into his eyes and my heart broke in two as I saw it was still there.
"All those times you reassured me and said you don't feel a thing for her anymore. I trusted you and every time you told me you weren't in love with her you were lying and hurting me even more." I move away from Mike, tears filling my eyes.
"Katherine, you have to believe me…" I interrupted him once again.
"Just don't, I can't handle anymore of your lies." I walked back and picked up my purse and keys once again.
"Where are you going?" Mike tried to walk after me, but I stopped him.
"I'm leaving. I can't get any further invested into this relationship then I already am." I opened the door slightly and had my back turned when Mike began to speak.
"I love you, we can work this out." Mike begged, but I wasn't giving in.
"I love you too and I probably always will." With those last few words, I left Mike and Wisteria Lane for good.
"Here comes the pain
Here comes me wishing things had never changed
And she was right here in my arms tonight
But here comes goodbye…"
