Tigerkit peered through the long shoots of grass. A fox sniffed the ground. What if it sees me? Tigerkit bushed up his tabby pelt. He had to look fierce! The fox suddenly lifted its muzzle and snapped it's jaws that had saliva strings that was stuck to the upper and lower parts of the teeth. Tigerkit gulped, cringing. He scanned the area for any cats. He shouldn't have wandered into ShadowClan territory! A patrol was padding along the borders, but it took no notice of Tigerkit.
The fox creeped up closer to Tigerkit and he let out a squeal of horror. He reared up to his hind legs and batted the air, hissing and growling. The fox twitched it's ears, looking amused. "Help that kit!" A tom yowled. It was too late. Tigerkit felt rooted to the ground when the fox launched itself at Tigerkit, and pain wrapped around him and squeezed his body. Realization made Tigerkit buck wildly.
I'm being mauled alive! Tigerkit yowled in his mind. With each swing of his paw, he felt his energy being sucked away. He took a glance at the cat that tried to attack the fox, but failed miserably. Tigerkit's vision seemed to blur and flicker. The fox scooped out flesh from his belly, and Tigerkit seemed to drop into a pool of darkness.
Tigerkit felt energy collect in his body, and he blinked awake. Dark trees swayed around him, but there wasn't any wind. Eerie mist weaved around the dead trees.
"Future, Tigerkit. Your future has disappeared." A voice murmured softly, stirring Tigerkit's ear fur. "My...future?" Tigerkit stammered.
The mist whirled around and exploded, and a ghostly form appeared in front of him. The cat was scarred and scratched, but a baleful look gleamed in their eyes. "Future..." The voice whispered.
The ghostly cat leaped and went past Tigerkit, and attacked another ghostly cat. The victim let out a caterwaul and struggled under the muscular cat's grip. The victim jerked and fell still, and the evil cat released the victim and sheathed their long claws. Long claws, same pelt. If I stayed alive, would that cat become me? The thought sent shivers down Tigerkit's spine.
"Why don't you stay here longer, and we can talk more about your future?" The voice cackled. "No!" Tigerkit shrieked. He darted into a cloud of mist, stumbling over the ancient roots that curled over the ground. He dived into a green, grassy land and the evil forest disappeared behind him. A white cat next to a kit looked up. They were basking on a rock, relishing the warm light. "Who are you? Why were you in the Dark Forest?" The adult she cat asked, leaping to their paws. The kit blinked warily at Tigerkit.
"My name's Tigerkit. I died and somehow ended up in that stinky place!" He whimper. The she cat perked her ears. Her eyes looked distant for a heartbeat, like she knew him somehow. "I'm Snowfur. That kit over there is Mosskit. She's Bluefur's kit. You might know her since you belong to ThunderClan. Anyways, tell me what happened."
Snowfur sat on her haunches and patiently listened to Tigerkit, while Mosskit scooted over to the conversation with interest. "I saw this huge and scarred cat. He looked evil. Well, it turns out that was going to be me if I lived. Then a voice wanted me to stay! But I said now and ran really really fast until I stumbled into this place!" Tigerkit's story seemed to tumble out of his mouth so quickly that he was surprised that Snowfur understood.
"Well, you're here now. This is StarClan. There's no such thing as borders here." Snowfur broke into a purr. "B-but, aren't you scared that I might become evil or something?"
Snowfur twitched her whiskers in amusement. "You would be blocked off if you weren't allowed in here. Let's do something fun. We can meet your ancestors, and you can meet Mosskit and I." Tigerkit widened his eyes . It did seem kind of fun. "Okay. What else can we do here?" "We can do anything you want. Even catch a fish!" Snowfur answered with another rumbling purr.
"Let's go now then!" Tigerkit bounced around Snowfur. "Okay, okay. Mosskit, come over here. Meet Tigerkit."
