Italia, my love.
I've loved you, my dear,
Since I saw you that time
In that nine hundredth year.
Italia, my hope.
I asked you to join me.
Though I knew your sadness,
I just could not see.
Italia, my light.
To war, I must go.
I promise to return
But as who, I don't know.
Italia, my friend.
I did not lie.
A different man I might be,
But I could not go and die.
Italia, my love.
I will not leave you.
Until I remember, our love
no one will hew.
