Ok-so after that story I gave you last time I am seriously downgrading myself with this one. It's just a little drabble. Took me about 30 minutes max. (Including when I had to stop and take the dog out)

But Ponyboy's obviously biased opinion on Darry during the book has always interested me. So I decided to build on it a little bit :)

Darry calls out.

"Ponyboy?"

"Mmhmm?"

"Did you finish your homework?"

I had been working on it at the kitchen table, but I stop. I should be used to this by now. I try not to keep track of the days, but it's an instinct at this point. So far it's been 53. I wonder how long till I lose count.

I can't answer Darry for a minute because the words get lost. But he isn't one to wait.

"Well did you?"

I focus on the eraser at the end of my pencil. The stolen question hangs in the air. I guess it was sort of free for the taking, and Darry felt entitled enough to scoop it up. He started calling Soda Pepsi-Cola too.

Who does he think he is?

"Ponyboy." He says it flatly, tiredly.

My patience flies off the spool. I've been like that lately, or at least Darry says so. Constantly hot & cold. Frustrated, I yell, "Yes Darry! It's done! I finished it forever ago!"

I lie a lot lately, too.

Darry doesn't even emerge from wherever he is. Of course he doesn't. "Well there's no need to -"

I pretend not to hear him.. "I'm goin with Johnny to a movie." I announce and stand up abruptly.

Darry isn't there to see how the chair flies away when I push it back, but I'm sure he hears the scrape it makes.

I don't even plan on actually going to a movie, and I hope that Darry tells me to stay home. I need a good reason to let out the strange feeling of fear that's been building up inside me for 53 days in the form of anger. Or more specifically, yelling.

And then I want the punishment I'll deserve.

But of course he sighs and says, "Fine. As long as you're back by 10. You got school tomorrow."

So I decide to just leave. Maybe another day.

But just for good measure, I don't ever finish my homework.
