Naruto: Reaper of Souls
Authors Note: I do not Own Naruto or any idea about the god of death AKA Shinigami. This is a simple story that I came up with while I was bored. The coat Naruto will mostly be wearing is like the Trench Coats that Organization XIII from Kingdom Hearts wear but with the hood always up. Have fun reading it. Also ill be getting my other ones up and running soon I haven't had the ability to get on the internet in awhile.
~Eight Years after the Kitsune's Defeat~
A Young boy was running through the village of Konoha. He was running as swiftly as his little legs could carry him. He wore a pair of green cargo pants that were too baggy for him and a belt to hold them up. He wore a cartoon shirt of a couple of animals meant for like a five year old that was a bit too small for him. He was pale and skinny due to lack of proper nourishment.
"Get the Demon. He needs to die. The Fourth should have never died for this demon child." One of the men said. He carried a Kunai and ran after the young boy. The boy was Uzumaki Naruto son of Uzumaki Kushina his father was unknown. Naruto was crying and bleeding from several scratches and cuts on his body. The man threw the Kunai and the blade went right into his back and into his heart.
Naruto felt a small sting and his eyes went wide as he fell forward. He coughed once blood coming out. As he hit the pavement he bounced a few times his eyes glazed over as he started to die.
Naruto opened his eyes suddenly as if he had just awakened and stood up. His scratches hadn't been healed and he was bleeding still. Soon he felt at his back and the Kunai was stuck there and he began to cry.
A pair of red eyes came out of the mist that surrounded Naruto and out came a fox with nine tails. "So the vessel was killed. This is unfortunate. We died before your fathers seal could work." The voice was female coming from the Kitsune. "Well I tried but that last kunai penetrated your heart before I could heal you."
Naruto stood up and rubbed at his eyes. "What are you?" He asked crying softly. The Kitsune shifted and was an eight-year-old girl. "I am the Kitsune." He said softly. "A biju from the demon realm. I was tricked by an Uchiha and corrupted. The Fourth Hokage had sealed me within you to purify me." She said softly.
Another voice appeared in the mist and chuckled softly. "Hohohohoho so the young son of the Fourth has crossed over and with the Kitsune. This is interesting very interesting." A ghost like being appeared with a skull like face red crazy hair and a scythe in one hand with the blade of the scythe hanging over his shoulder.
The Kitsune turned and growled low in her throat. "Great time for judgment. This bites the Shinigami judges me before I can repent for what I was forced to do." She said pouting like an eight-year-old little girl not getting her way. The Shinigami turned his smile like face towards the Kitsune. "Worry not Kitsune I am not here to judge either of you." He said softly.
The Kitsune blinked slowly. "No but we're dead?" she said and was confused. The Shinigami shook his skull head. "No both of your destinies lie in the realm of the living and you are to be purified and given your own body. Course we are having a hard time with that seeing as we do not know how old you wish to be." The Shinigami stated chuckling again. "How are you going to get us back?" Naruto suddenly shouted to the Shinigami.
The Shinigami turned his face to Naruto. "As for you I will be making you a Reaper you have the potential to be stronger then most demons." Naruto shook in fear. "I don't want to be stronger then most demons the villagers will hurt me again." He said as he tried to grab the blade in his back. The Shinigami chuckled softly. "Do not worry I will speak with Sarutobi about it."
The Kitsune frowned. "I want to be the same age as Naruto. I like him and want to watch out for him." She said as she ran to Naruto and clung to him like the young girl who found her first boyfriend. The Shinigami turned. "This will be interesting Kitsune for we will need to alter realty one of two ways. Go back in time and place your soul into a new body and have you born or to actually find someone who has just died that is eight and place you in her body let me see."
The Shinigami disappeared and comes back. "It seems Kitsune that you will need to be separated from Naruto. You guys will meet during the chuunin exam. I am sorry for this inconvenience but the other gods have decided that this is the best way to make sure that Madara did poison you. I fought for you heartily Kitsune but I was over ruled."
Kitsune would glare and sigh. "Fine I am willing to prove myself if you guys will purge me of the evil chakra that you know Madara forced onto me I will prove it to you." The Shinigami chuckled. "So be it. Just so you know Kitsune. This time warp will put you as you are sealed into Naruto. Which means you will be Hanyu instead of full biju. Naruto will carry apart of you in him as part of him being a reaper." The Shinigami explained
Shinigami would clap his hands three times slowly. There was a glow and it surrounded Kitsune and she was purged of all the evil taint. A red soul orb sat in front of Kitsune and the Shinigami took it and began to fiddle with it. He even began to whistle a jaunty tune as he did his work. Soon the red soul like became a dark black.
Naruto watched in fascination as his blue eyes went wide. "You will not know your destiny Uzumaki Naruto, but I will be able to whisper whose souls should be reaped. I have given you knowledge of the Reaper-Jutsu's inside of this orb. As you gain in strength you will be able to use them. Those you can't use will leave you weak for days or weeks." The Shinigami explained.
Naruto nods slowly and reaches for the orb. The Shinigami smiled and quickly shoved it down Naruto's throat. Naruto gagged for a moment and felt his limbs fill out to be an eight-year-old body that was well nourished. He was by no means fat or over weight he was proper weight for a boy his size. His eyes would begin to darken and shift.
Soon his eyes were dark blue eyes the pupils became like Kitsune slits and his eyes had an eerie red glow to him. His hair went into a spike and his canines became more pronounced. He went to his knees and he began to retch as his organs shifted and became different. His skin became even paler slowly. A tattoo appeared on Naruto's shoulder blade with a scythe behind what looks like a kitsune's skull.
Naruto ran his hand through his hair slowly. His clothing also changed becoming a pair of black boots with a pair of black cargo pants that allowed ease of movement. He had a black shirt with a black jacket over it all. He had a pair of black fingerless gloves on. There was a pouch of kunai on his right leg about half way down on the left Naruto felt a scroll. He pulled it out and looked to the Shinigami.
Shinigami smiled. "That is your Reaper blade. You can unseal it after you graduate it is the blade you will use to reap the souls of those I say." Naruto nods slowly and put it back silently and ran a hand over his clothing. "Will I always have clothes like this?" He asked softly. The Shinigami nodded and smiled. "Time to go back you two." He did a lot of seals and then held out his hand and the mist world disappeared from them. Soon Naruto woke back up in the street. The kunai had fallen out and he was healed as he stood up. "Excuse me is there a reason to be attacking this young man?" A male voice said from behind Naruto
Naruto stood and turned he saw the Head of the Hyuuga clan standing before him with a young girl of about eight. In fact she was Hyuuga Hinata heir to the Hyuuga Clan. Both of them stood between him and the crowd. "Leave him alone he is not the demon you claim him to be." Said Hinata shyly. The man who threw the kunai frowned. "Leave Hiashi he killed the fourth." Naruto looked to the man and something in him flared a black aura appeared around him.
Before Naruto could speak the third appeared behind them and he would glare at the people. "Leave Naruto alone. He is not a demon at all. I know this for a fact because I was there when the fourth performed his jutsu." As the third appeared several Anbu appeared as well and flanked the third. "Now I suggest you return home or else you will be detained and arrested." The third had been visited by the Shinigami and remembered the conversation well.
~Sarutobi's Dream~
Sarutobi was dreaming of his family and Konohamaru becoming a great ninja. Then a mist formed and Sarutobi saw the Shinigami. "Is it my time?" He asked the Shinigami. Shinigami shook his head. "No it isn't. The fourth is going to perform a Jutsu that will kill him I need you to take his place. This is actually to tell you about the Kitsune who will be attacking soon. I want you to leave it to the fourth and to let him die. His son will live on and I have made him a Reaper because eight years after the fourth seals the Kitsune in Naruto he will be killed. So I am altering time. The Kitsune will be placed in a child that is not yet born when the fourth does the jutsu and she will be coming during the Chuunin Exam be prepared to accept her from the village she will defect from. I want you to ensure Naruto's safety I do not care if you have to adopt him yourself but I cannot keep bringing him back the others might get suspicious of my motives."
Sarutobi nodded slowly. "I will look into it. Maybe I will see about someone adopting Naruto." He said out loud. The Shinigami nodded. "As long as he is safe. I do not care who he lives with. My Reaper will need to take souls that I deem are not fit to live. Some who are to evil to live or who have lived longer then they should." Sarutobi nodded and then he went back to his dream.
~End Memory of Dream~
"Now return home." Sarutobi said as he turned and motioned the Anbu to circle them and led Hyuuga Hinata, her father and Naruto back to his home. Sarutobi spoke slowly. "It is time we talk about what happened. Naruto if you please power down your aura. You might accidentally take the soul of our escorts." Naruto nodded slowly not realizing he called upon his Reaper aura.
Hiashi would walk into the Hokage's office with Hinata. "I am sorry for stepping outside the bounds of my authority. Hinata could not stand seeing Naruto hurt." The Hokage nodded slowly. "Many still believe he is the container of the Kitsune." Hiashi shook his head slowly and patted Hinata on the back of the head. "I figured as much. What is going to happen to Naruto?" Hiashi asked softly.
The Hokage looked through his papers slowly. "I am going to have someone take Naruto as their son." The Hokage said slowly. "I am just looking for the right nin." He passed over the paper with the name Mitarashi Anko. "Ah Yes Anko. She might be perfect. What do you think Hiashi?" He asked handing over the profile.
Hiashi looked it over. "Well, She will be able to draw out that reaper aura of his." The Hokage would nod slowly. "Yes she will. I wonder if her becoming a Konoha Nin around the same time as I receive the information about Naruto." Sarutobi stood slowly and sent an Anbu for Anko.
Soon Anko and the Anbu returned. The woman was younger no older then about 20-25. She looked and drew her kunai sensing Naruto's Aura. "Shall I kill the Orochimaru spy Hokage-Sama?" The Hokage held up his hand. "Hold yourself Anko. This is Naruto. The one marked by the Shinigami. So his aura will be a lot like Orochimaru's and your own." The Hokage said softly.
Anko looks, "I see." She said softly, "Then what was I called here for?" The Hokage smiled softly. "That is simple. I want you to adopt Naruto and train him. Draw out his Reaper Aura. I want him strong when he goes to the academy. Also we are making it public knowledge that he was the Fourth's son. And we will be giving you and Naruto his compound to use as a home and training grounds.
Anko looked to Naruto. "Me look after and train this brat?" She jerks her thumb towards Naruto. "Your kidding right?" she asked softly. Naruto would narrow his eyes as the black aura appeared and his eyes began to gain a reddish tint as his hands clenched. "I am going to kill you." He hissed as he leapt forward towards Anko his hands groping towards her throat.
The Anbu and Hiashi stopped Naruto grabbing onto him around the waist while Hinata grabbed at his arm. "Your on Hokage-sama. I'll take him as apprentice and my own son." Anko said smiling softly and licked at her lips. "We will most definitely have some fun." Anko finished.
The Hokage dismissed them all and Hinata would smile to Naruto. Naruto smirked back softly and followed after Anko after waving to Hiashi and Hinata. Hinata would blush slightly since she was still shy.
~Five Years Later~
Naruto woke up and knew today was graduation day. He slipped out of his bed and padded to the shower quickly washing himself and brushed his teeth. He went out and began to dress. He pulled on a pair of black Nin pants a black undershirt with his mesh armor. He then pulled on a hooded black Nin jacket. As he left he pulled on his long trench coat with a hood buttoning up over his chest so that from his waist down it flared out and back from his legs. He would pull the hood up over his spikey blonde hair to hide his eerie eyes which still always had the red glow but currently looked like his normal blue eyes..
He walked up to the Academy and met with Hinata. She would grin as she saw her best friend. Naruto smirked as well and opened the door for Hinata. Hinata would blush and chuckle softly and then slipped in. Kiba came up behind and sighed. "Come on stop hitting on Hinata Naruto it's a little creepy."
Naruto laughed softly and looked to Kiba. Naruto turned and slugged him in the arm. "You know I wouldn't intrude upon your little crush Kiba. You know she and I practically grew up together when Mom found out my Kekki was close to the Byakugan." Kiba chuckled and pushed Naruto softly. "Yeah I know. I was thinking of asking Hinata out if she and I pass."
Naruto chuckled. "So predictable dog boy." He said softly. "But go for it. I know that while it may look like she and I are flirting she really has eyes for you." Naruto leaned closer. "I think she is trying to make you jealous so you'll ask her out before I do." He said softly chuckling. Naruto knew what he was and knew he was supposed to be meeting Kitsune again in the months or years to come.
Shikamaru was sitting next to Choji as usual. Ino and Sakura were fighting over who was going to sit next to Naruto. Sasuke sat there acting bored as they chatted and fought over him. Shino sat next to Kiba and Naruto gave him a nod. Shino simply nodded back in greeting.
Naruto kicked his feet up onto the desk and sighed softly waiting for what would happen. Iruka-sensei would slip inside slowly. "Today is the Graduation test. I will call your name and you will perform the Bunshin No Jutsu." Naruto smirked, as it was one of his specialties. No one knew his strengths or weaknesses except for Anko his mother and Hiashi. They swore to keep his Kekki Genkai a secret.
Naruto was called as one of the last and went inside he easily performed the Bunshin no Jutsu. He met his mom after school and she smiled. "So it looks like my little man graduated. Its your night out what would you like to eat?" she asked. Naruto looked at her as if she were joking. "You raised me to like dango and juice or green tea." Naruto said chuckling. "Oh so you want dango? I thought you would want your other favorite Ranmen." Anko said chuckling putting her hands on her hips. Naruto sighed. "I want both Mom." He said chuckling.
~Team Selection~
Naruto sat in the back of his class still and sighed as he chewed on a toothpick stuck in his mouth. He was bored as they waited for Iruka-sensei to call out the teams. About five minutes later walked in Iruka looking to them all and called them to order. "Alright students you will be split up into three man cells with a Jounin instructor." He began calling off names slowly. "Team 7 will consist of Haruno Sakura, Uzumaki Naruto and Uchiha Sasuke your Jounin instructor will be Hatake Kakashi." Iruka continued through the last three teams.
Naruto smiled as he heard Shino, Kiba and Hinata were on a team and Ino, Shikamaru and Choji were on the same team. He wondered about Kurenai since his mom spent a lot of time with her. He also knew that Ino, Shikamaru, and Choji's instructor was Sarutobi Asuma the Thirds eldest son.
He looked to his two teammates silently. He knew that this was going to be strange since neither of them thought him a good Nin. He was kind of loud mouthed and excited rather then silent and calm as a true Nin should be. He of course was letting people believe he was a worthless Nin so that they wouldn't bother him to much as he reaped the souls of those the Shinigami needed to be removed.
Naruto stood and moved closer to his teammates as lunch was called. He left and ate alone watching Sakura trying to get the Uchiha heir to go on a date with her. He chuckled as he watched them and then winced as Sasuke spoke. "Shut up you know nothing. You're just as annoying as Naruto." Naruto watched Sakura's face fall in disbelief and he finished his dango tossing the last skewer needle into a nearby tree making a perfect Konoha Leaf. "Leaf Complete." He said chuckling as he walked by Sakura. She looked at him and called after him. "Hi Naruto." She said sounding kind of forced. Naruto smiled and gave her a wave.
Soon after lunch the other Genin had left with their respective instructors but Naruto and his team were left sitting. His hood had fallen back from his head since his head was leaning over the back of the chair. His red glowing eyes watched silently as he tapped his foot on the table. Soon the door opened and Kakashi would enter.
He brought them all to the roof of the building. "Alright tell me your name your likes and dislikes. And any goals you have." Sakura would frown as he finished speaking. "What about you Sensei?" she asked softly. "Oh well. I am Hatake Kakashi. I don't really telling you about my likes or dislikes. My goals are unimportant at this time." Inner Sakura would comment about how they only learned his name.
"Lets start with you on the right." Kakashi said pointing to Naruto. "I am Uzumaki Naruto. My likes are Tai-jutsu, My Mom Anko, The Hyuuga family, Ranmen and Dango. My dislikes are few in number. My goals are to become Hokage and Make everyone in the village acknowledge my strength as well as to complete assignments given to me." Naruto Finished. By assignments Naruto was meaning the reaping of souls.
Kakashi looked to Naruto. He had been given the boys Information and knew that he possessed the soul of a reaper and part of the Kitsune's power to keep his body from destroying itself when using the Shinigami's power. His right eye moved to Uchiha Sasuke. "I am Uchiha Sasuke. There are tons of things I dislike but I don't really like anything. I don't want to use the word "dream" but I do have an ambition. The resurrection of my clan and to kill a certain man."
Sasuke said as he kept his hands folded together before his face. He looked to Sakura. "And last the Girl." Sakura smiled. "I am Haruno Sakura. The thing I like is. Well the Person I like is." She said and blushed looking to Sasuke. "Umm should I say my dream for the future? The person I dislike is Naruto." She said glaring at him. "My hobby is." She said and again looked to Sasuke as she blushed.
Naruto smirked softly inside of his hood. He let Sakura say her dislike for him. He didn't care he would work with these two because he had to. Kakashi sighed softly thinking 'Girls of this age are more interested in love then ninjutsu.' He would stand and spoke softly. "That's enough we will start our duties tomorrow." He looked them over silently
Naruto spoke softly, "What kind of duties Sensei?" He asked softly. Kakashi looked into the hood and knew he wouldn't see anything but the slight red tint to Naruto's eyes. "First we are going to do something with just the four of us." Sakura would speak next slowly. "What's that Kakashi-Sensei?" She asked. "Survival training." He said bluntly.
Sakura would open her eyes wide in shock. "Why do we have to do training we have done a lot of training in the Academy?" She asked sounding like her book smart self. Kakashi looked to them. "This isn't normal training. I will be your opponent." Kakashi said softly. Naruto spoke softly. "Then what is it exactly?" He asked softly. Kakashi would begin to laugh
"What's so funny Sensei?" Sakura asked looking slightly upset that he was laughing at their inquiries. "No. Well it's just that when I tell you guys you will flip." Kakashi said slowly trying to stop laughing. Sakura's eyebrow went up slowly. "Flip?" she asked softly. "Of the twenty-seven graduates only nine will become Genin. The rest will be sent back to the academy. The training is a super difficult exam with a failure rate of sixty-six percent." He explained softly.
Naruto gave a slight twitch in his shoulders while both Sakura's and Sasuke's faces were easier to see the shock on their face. Kakashi began to laugh again and then spoke softly. "I told you you'd flip. Anyway tomorrow you will be graded on the training field. Bring all your Shinobi tools. Oh and skip breakfast you'll throw up." Kakashi would hand them a printout. "The details can be read on this print out. Don't be late tomorrow."
Naruto went home and pulled from his secret storage compartment his best tools and something else. He set it on the floor and unrolled it. There was a seal on the dead center and symbols in the middle of the seal reading Soul and Weapon. Naruto would bite into his thumb and slide the thumb over the seal and let the scroll roll closed and then performed seals while holding it with his thumbs.
Soon the scroll seemed to explode in a gray thick cloud of smoke and cleared soon. In Naruto's hands was a sword. It was a straight sword it was in a black sheath with a harness that would clip easily over Naruto's coat so he could draw the blade over his left shoulder (A.N: Much like Blade's Sword from the movies except on the outside of the coat instead of underneath.). Naruto drew the blade and it was Pure black with red symbols over the blade. He would slice his thumb on the blade his blood sliding into a special section of the blade, which caused each of the symbols to pulse with energy. "So it needs my blood to activate the soul reaping qualities." He said out loud.
~Next Morning~
Naruto would slowly walk toward where they were to meet Kakashi-sensei. He wore the blade sheathed down his spine. His blue eyes looked to the others silently as he watched them. Sakura was trying to get Sasuke to go on a date with her.
Kakashi would arrive several hours late and would wave. "Hey Guys Good morning." Kakashi said softly. Sakura turned and pointed practically yelling. "Your late." He led them to the training ground that had three stumps in the clearing and set up an alarm clock. "Ok it's set for noon." He said. "Here are two bells. Your task is to take them from me before noon"
He paused slowly as he looked to them out of his right eye since his left was covered with his leaf protector. Those who cannot get a bell by noon…. Get no lunch." He paused to be a bit more dramatic and turned. "I'll not only tie you to one of those stumps. I'll eat it in front of you."
They all looked at him in disbelief as they thought the same thing. 'So that is why he told us not to eat.' Kakashi continued with the explanation not looking at them. "You need only to get one bell. There are two so one of you will definitely be tied up." He looked to them slowly. "And the one who doesn't get a bell fails. So one of you will be sent back to the academy."
Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke would tense slightly and looked to Kakashi in disbelief. "You can use your shurikens. You wont succeed unless you come at me to intending to kill." Sakura looked worried at having to come at their sensei with the intent to kill. "But you'll be in Danger." She said softly.
Kakashi smirked slightly under his mask. "Don't worry, Start when I say." He would move his hand up into the air slightly and moved it down in a chopping motion. "Go." He said as Sakura and Sasuke leapt away. Naruto seemed to disappear in what looked like heat lines.
Kakashi's eyebrow rose slowly as he watched Naruto he knew he was the Reaper for the Shinigami. He watched as he thought to himself. 'The basics of being a ninja to hide yourself well.' Kakashi would turn suddenly as he felt a presence narrowly being missed by Naruto's strike.
Naruto appeared for the briefest instant and then disappeared once again in those wavy lines having done a few seals that Kakashi caught before he faded. 'Interesting set of seals must be one of his Reaper powers.' Kakashi put himself on guard still thinking he didn't need his Sharingan eye for this fight.
Seeing his opening Sasuke would throw several kunai and shurikens at Kakashi aiming to kill. As his teammates watched on they saw Kakashi get hit but then he disappeared doing the basic switch jutsu with a log. Sasuke moved from his position quickly since Kakashi left himself open to find where one of them was hiding.
Sakura moved the same time Sasuke did looking for him. Kakashi easily caught up with Sakura and put her in a genjutsu of seeing Sasuke dying and begging for help. Sakura passed out instantly. Sasuke would being his fight with Kakashi and managed to touch a bell.
Naruto still hidden watched all of it as he setup for his next attack. He moved quickly and released Sakura from the genjutsu and woke her up. "Sakura-chan. I have a plan we need to work together not as a single unit. You're the smartest in our class and I am sure you have figured it out already." Sakura frowned she hadn't thought that they were to work together but she played along.
"Of course I knew that. I was just looking for Sasuke-kun." She said a little bit rudely to Naruto. Naruto let it pass. "I have a plan. Ill be the one to not take a bell. I can keep Kakashi-sensei on his toes while you and Sasuke grab one." He said as they left and went to look for Sasuke.
Sasuke was in the dirt when they found him and Naruto quickly explained his plan. Sasuke frowned at having one of the worst in the class be that much smarter then him but agreed to it. They all set off and Naruto closed his eyes while performing the seals slowly.
He opened his eyes as the veins popped out on the side of his eyes. The eyes were Kitsune slitted a deep dark blue and the red tint he had to it deepened in color. "Reaper doujutsu." He said softly instantly seeing a full three hundred and sixty degrees.
They found Kakashi setting up for the next attack and Naruto appeared before him and smiled. "It is time Sensei." He said and began to attack Kakashi. He was using Hyuga's Gentle Fist taijutsu. Kakashi's eyes widened as he would dodge and block to the best of his ability. He barley noticed Sakura and Sasuke "attacking". Soon Naruto stopped and stepped back.
Kakashi blinked softly. "Why are you stopping?" He asked softly. "The bells are still there." He said still feeling the weight of them on his pants. Naruto pointed twice a smirk on his face. Kakashi slowly looked down and saw two strings with simple weights on them. "Interesting. Sakura and Sasuke's Attacks were feints." He turned as he heard the bells jingle in the wind from behind him.
"I see. You all pass. Whose plan was it?" He asked softly. Both Sasuke and Sakura looked to Naruto. "So your smarter then your grades let on and you can use the Hyuga style of taijutsu?" His eyes still hidden behind his hood he slowly pulled the hood down. "Yes since I am a Reaper for the Shinigami. He gave me a few useful bloodline techniques that reapers have and any children I have will obtain. The first is a doujutsu they have a name but I do not know it. It is basically a Hyuga style of doujutsu I can see nearly three hundred and sixty degrees around as well as I can see the tenketsu and the chakra system. Genjutsu do not work on me and I can see where a persons soul resides."
Kakashi nodded slowly. "As I suspected. Good work for coming up with the plan. Tomorrow we will begin on real missions as a team with me in command." Naruto nodded slowly. Sakura and Sasuke gave back the bells. "Your dismissed for the day." He said smiling.
