The ink was dry. The papers were signed, sealed, and delivered to the courthouse. As of today, Nick was a single man.

He picked up his glass and threw back the shot in his hands. He grasped as the alcohol ran down his throat. That was some strong stuff. He needed another. He waved the bartender over to pour the liquid into his glass. He nodded the bartender before focusing on his glass.

He rolled the glass in between his fingers.

He should be celebrating. No more fighting. No more sleeping on the sofa or at Rootcore. No more cold silences and even colder beds. It was all done.

On the other side, there will be no more dinners where they struggle to learn how to cook. They were lucky that they didn't burn down anything. They would curl up on the sofa and watching foreign movies and television shows where Maddie would ramble a mile a minute on different camera techniques. He would miss the smell of her hair and that shy smile that would blossom on her face.

He would miss her.

In all honesty, he felt like he wanted another drink.

"I knew that I would find you here, mate," A familiar voice said behind him. He turned around to see Xander and Chip standing there.

He turned back around and took another shot.

"And that is why I brought Chip. He will be our driver tonight," Xander said as he took a seat next to him.

"…and make sure that you two would don't something really stupid like sing," Chip added.

"I have you know that I am a great singer," Xander added.

He groaned at his friends.

"Go away."

"No," Chip said. He blinked up at Chip.

Xander put his hand on his shoulder and shook it.

"At a times like this, guys have to stick together."

"Then why did you two abandon me during my time?" He said bitterly.

Xander and Chip gave each other another look.

"We didn't abandon you. We could never abandon our friends but we had to step aside," Chip said.

"What Chip is trying to say is…we know a train wreck when we see it. I saw it with my own parents' divorce," Xander said.

His month shut up. Xander never really talked about his parents' divorce and after his own, he can't say that he blamed him.

"We get it that you wanted us to take sides. It's kind of like a game of kickball. Best players are your friends and family but I know better. The game doesn't end pretty. It ended bitter and angry. Neither side is happy until it is over. Are you happy that it is over?" Xander added.

"No…yes…I don't know," He said as he stared at the glass.

"And you shouldn't know. Not now…maybe not ever. Maybe one day…you will be friends again or not. You won't yell at each other or give each other cold looks across the room. Maybe, you will especially when the family visits. Maybe, you will date again or maybe not. In parents' case, date each other. Another train wreck or not."

He didn't know what to say. He knew Xander was right. A part of him was scared about what to come. He had Maddie in his life for so long and they have been through so much.

He just doesn't know what to do tomorrow but he knew what he will do now.

"You are buying," He said.

"First round is on me. Next round is on Chip," Xander said with a wave.

"HEY!" Chip said then gave Xander a look.

He started to laugh. Just a little…and right now, that was enough.
