Prologue

The wind ran through my hair roughly, making strands of it wisp around my face. The music was blaring, it ran in my ears. We were listening to my brother's favorite band "Limp Bizkit". The sun was shining, heating up my face, even though the air in the car was on. The top of the convertible was down. I turned my head and smiled at my older brother, Cal. I smiled at him, he smiled back.

Cal -his real name was Calvin- was only 1 year older than I- him being 18 and me being 17. He had somewhat long black hair- it was styled in a haggard way, but it suited him. It was kind of wavy and even though it was washed it always managed to look greasy. He had these amazing blue-green eyes that could make you swim at the sight of them. He hadn't shaved in about 2 days. So he had heavy rubble covering his chin and upper lip. His cheeks were somewhat chubby, but made him have more of a younger look. He was tall and slender, with some muscles. He wasn't all bone or all flab either- more of a perfect balance between the two.

Cal and I were very similar when it came to looks. People used to think we were twins we were little kids. It got immensely annoying after a while. My mother basked in the attention we got the family. My mom -Juliana- was a tall petite woman, her hair was medium length and blond. She had small dimples on both sides of the corners of her lips. She had small light brown eyes browns, that blended with her light tan skin. Her eyes were not the color of either mine or my brothers. They were a gray color with blue mixed in them. She was a knock out.

We got our dark hair color from our father- Daniel. He was a very attractive and tall man, he had high cheek bones, and scruff hair than surrounded his upper lip, chin, and jaw. He didn't look bad with it was another thing my mother fell in love with. His hair was at least chin length, maybe a little longer -it was dark as night. His eyes were a honey brown color. His grin made his chin look more defined- if the smile grew then same with the wrinkles underneath his eyes. His nose wasn't big but it wasn't small- it kind of drooped in this way that didn't make it look bad.

I- Lyra -had long, wavy black hair- that almost reached the small of my back. I was medium height, my skin wasn't tan at all, I was an ivory porcelain color. My eyes were a grayish-blue color, but the color kinda changed in different light settings. My face had my father's high cheek bones and my mother's small chin. My lips were small but plump. My nose had a smaller droop than my fathers did and I had my mother's eyebrows but darker. I am petite, but that doesn't count my breast or butt. They are average size- or maybe a little bigger compared to my size. I'm not extremely small or immensely huge. Just Average.

As far as our family story goes, my dad is a gifted business man and that job requires him to travel far too much. My mother stays at home for her job- she edits stories that random people write, but I can tell you it cost a lot to let her edit them. We used to reside in a beautiful two-story house in Vermont. My brother and I lived a normal, average life. Until my father got a phone call offering him a job in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Him taking this job had it's positives and it's negatives.

Negatives: Leaving friends, going to a new school, knowing no one, and leaving behind every memory I have ever had here.

Positives: Meeting new friends, Dad's home more, a place to start all over again, a clean slate, and possibly my first boyfriend.
