Smoke, fog, or clouds swirled around his periphery. The substance gave a hazy appearance to his surroundings. But, at the same time, it made Merlin feel as if he were peering through an opening of a veil and into a room. He couldn't see a whole lot of what was going on, but what he could, he didn't like nor did he understand what he was viewing. Although he was unable to see everything in the room, Merlin could hear the commotion within the living quarters perfectly.
A group of people surrounded a bed. Heads bent and tears flowed. From one of the people, a dark skinned and dark haired woman, a sob escaped her lips and shattered the silence of the room. An elder man placed a tender hand upon her shoulder and squeezed slightly. Out of the corner of Merlin's eye he saw another woman, older than the dark skinned one, shivering and shaking. Her hands were pressed tightly against her face as if that was the only way to hold herself together from all the jerking she was doing.
His heart broke to see this scene. The scene before him oozed sadness. It gripped his chest, squeezing his lungs until he thought he might faint and pressing against his heart until Merlin thought it would collapse. Tears pricked his eyes for the loss he felt from within. He wanted to go and comfort those people, whoever they may be, but he seemed to be glued to his spot. Merlin was unable to move.
The scene before him got hazier as more of the foggy stuff rolled in. It swirled around Merlin as it blocked his view of anything around him. Everything around went white and as this happened; his name was howled out by a woman. "MERLIN!"
