Author's Note: I thought I'd try my hand at a simple one-shot. I hope it doesn't seem overly lame, but what can I say I really enjoy Luna/Neville pairings! Plus, I don't feel that enough people really appriciate Luna for who she is. Well, my point mainly is this could be a one-shot or I could continue! Just for kicks of course. Reviews are very much appriciated so let me know your opinion!

June Couldn't Come Too Soon

The air was damp and cool against Luna's skin as she sat by the lake. It was in the wee hours of the morning and the moon was slowly dipping below the horizon. Hardly any stars were still visible in the sky and yet it was still too dark for her to see her hands in front of her face.

She'd been sitting in the same place for almost six hours, thinking. It was so quiet outside of Hogwarts with no other students around to bother her. Hell, her whole life had been quiet recently. Now that her father had gone into hiding because everyone believed he had betrayed Harry Potter she was left to fend for herself. It also didn't help being in her final year of Hogwarts, with all of her friends gone. No one really wanted to talk with her anymore, she was still Loony Lovegood.

She smoothed out the wrinkles in her black pleated skirt and leaned back in the grass. Her soft sigh went unheard and she turned head to bury it in the lush grass. All she wanted was to hide the deep emotions that were waiting to flood from her at any moment.

Luna thought of the wonderful adventures of Harry Potter, she'd actually been included! But they were gone now, basking in the glory of defeating Lord Voldemort. Luna was left to finish school at Hogwarts, not even Ginny was left behind. Since the previous year she hadn't heard even a peep from her friends. No word from Harry (of course), none from Ron or Hermione, Ginny, or even Neville.

"No one wants to talk to poor old Looney," she whispered.

Neville, she thought. He was the only one she really wanted to think about, but she'd only received a postcard from him in August. That was almost eight months ago but she recalled clearly every word he had said.

Dear Luna,
I hope you enjoy your final year of Hogwarts. No worries, I'm sure you'll manage wonderfully. I'm off to the Philippines to explore their plant life. Apparently, the island climate permits a growth of flowers that could create an even more potent antidote for petrification! On a more serious note, I completely believe that your father did nothing to harm Harry and I apologize for the trouble you must be going through. Gran as agreed to let you spend the summer with us and I'll be at King's Cross in June to pick you up. I may not be able to write while I'm away, but I'll be thinking of you.
Love Neville.

Love. He had said love in his letter, honestly the only thing she could think about since she first read it on the train ride to Hogwarts.

Curse it all that it was only April, but June would come soon enough. She wondered if he meant it when he said he would be thinking of her, for she was surely thinking of him. Being completely alone this year was a challenge but she had something to look forward to in the end. Even if people were still hiding her books, robes and shoes in odd places around the castle.

Luna closed her eyes and smiled, waiting seemed like the perfect thing to do. Waiting for June to come.
