Oh god I know ... sorry.. It's stupid but I'm just sooo busy. However, this popped into my head and I just had to write it. I hope you all like it and I promise I'll continue with my stories soon again. Thanks for reading, please let me know what you think of this one-shot! xx
It was the third night in a row that the two woman were lying awake in bed at 3 o'clock. Once again, Emma had been pulled from her sleep due to the constant crying of her wife. She doesn't dare to say anything, because she's sure Regina doesn't want her to. So instead she stares in the darkness, letting the tears slowly roll down her cheeks, listening to Regina's unhappiness.
They don't talk about it the other day. Not that they really talk about anything. Not anymore. Instead they continue with the routine that has gotten used to them. Emma gets up first and takes a shower , meanwhile Regina prepares breakfast downstairs. When Emma gets downstairs, Regina puts on her best smile and quickly kisses her wife. She puts their plates down and they quietly eat. Sometimes they talk a little bit about Henry, sometimes they say nothing. After breakfast Emma goes to work and Regina takes her turn in the bathroom. She goes to work at 9, an hour earlier later than Emma. She comes home by 6, prepares dinner and waits for the blonde to return around 6:30 pm. They eat while talking about their days. More like acquaintances than lovers. After dinner they both return to themselves. Emma usually goes to see either Henry of her parents, Regina takes a long bath. At 10 pm they go to bed. Emma tries to cuddle Regina, but the brunette always freezes in her arms. Like she's scared of her wife's touch. She always tries to hide it though.
This day feels heavier, maybe because Emma's been stressed out at work, maybe because she's just not sure how long she can do this. She's walking towards the door when she turns around towards Regina, who's still in the kitchen, cleaning up the plates. "I love you." She blurts out, clearly putting her wife of guard. One of the plates falls from her hands and on the kitchen floor. It's broken. It doesn't seem to be the only thing broken. "I love you too." Regina whispers, before quickly dropping to the floor to pick up the pieces. Emma knows she's crying, she doesn't even have to look. Instead she walks out of the door and walks towards the precinct.
She knows Regina loves her, in fact that's what's causing the problem. If only Regina wouldn't love her, even still hate her, there wouldn't be an issue. After they got together and got married, Regina fully gave herself to Emma. They had the most amazing marriage, it was passionate and very loving. The brunette had finally found her happiness and had put her whole heart into it. That's when it happened, Emma was driving home one cold winter day, when the car had suddenly lost its grip on the road. She had lost all control and the car had flipped over multiple times. She was unconscious immediately. She doesn't remember this, but apparently Regina had found her. The woman had gone looking for her when she hadn't returned home and called her phone multiple times. The brunette was scared to death of course, thinking that her wife was dead. But Emma wasn't. Her heart had stopped beating momentarily, but after an 8 hour surgery they had managed to save her life. It had been an awful time for everyone around her, with Regina and Henry being by her side every minute of the day.
Emma thought that when she would return home, everything would go back to normal. It didn't. Regina took good care of her, but every time the blonde would undress, she'd look away. She didn't want to see the scar on Emma's chest. The blonde had first thought that Regina felt it was un pleasant to see, but after a few weeks she understood. Her wife had grown cold, their relationship had changed completely. She was scared. She was scared of losing her. So scared that she tried to stop loving her, because if Regina didn't love Emma anymore, she wouldn't be so scared anymore. Discussing it was even harder for the brunette. Still, they were living together. Emma refused to leave, even though she remembered Regina begging all too clearly.
'Please Emma," She had begged, the tears rolling down her eyes. "Please just leave." The blonde had been crying herself, her eyes were red from the amount of tears and the lack of sleep. "No." Regina started crying even harder, almost desperate. Emma knew that she needed her now more than ever, even though she didn't even realize it herself. She grabbed Regina's arms and pulled her closer, but the brunette pushed her back harshly. "Don't". There was so much hurt and fear in her eyes, it was the most painful thing to see. Instead of fighting Regina she quickly but softly brushed her hand of her wife's cheek, her eyes shining with tears. "I'm not going anywhere."
Regina might have hated her for it at the moment, but she did except it. Emma had talked to dr. Hopper about if she should perhaps listen to Regina and leave, but he agreed that she should stay. Regina really needed someone to be there for her now, to prove that they were not going anywhere, not willingly and unwillingly. Emma was staying. Just like she had promised on their wedding they.
Suddenly an idea popped into her head. It was a stupid one, and there was no way to know how the brunette was going to react. However, she decided that she should do it. She called dr. Hopper and informed him about her plan, he was enthusiastic and promised to help her with the arrangements.
After this she went to her mother, knowing that she'd want to help as well. The brunette had hugged her tightly, and mother and daughter couldn't hide their tears. "I think it's a great idea Emma." Her dad had hugged her, no words were needed.
The whole day was used to plan and arrange, listening to Snow's order, people were walking in and out of the mansion, bringing in flowers and everything else that could be used as decoration. Even Rumple was helping her, even giving her a supportive squeeze in her arm. Not even him wished so much unhappiness upon a person, especially one who had already had so much pain.
Around 5:30 everything was complete. Almost everyone was ready, except for the blonde herself. She asked Ruby and her mother to join her upstairs, just like she did almost exactly two years ago. Snow had trouble hiding her tears again when she helped Emma into her wedding dress. It still fit perfectly. Ruby was curling her hair and doing her make-up, just like then. For a second she feared it would be too much for Regina, she's walk away. However, just then Ruby took her hand and squeezed it tightly, "what you're doing tonight is amazing Emma, and it's the right thing." She smiled nervously at her friends encouragement and looked at herself in the mirror one last time. She still looked the same, except for the now naked scar on her chest.
Slowly she walked downstairs, into the garden that her mother and friends had decorated so beautifully. It was getting dark already, and their was a nice breeze in the air. Lights were hung in the trees of their garden, creating a comfortable were white chairs, and almost everybody had showed up. Suddenly she spotted her son, who seemed to have travelled all the way from Boston.
"Henry!" She said, walking up to him and taking him in her arms. He was growing so fast she noticed.
Her 18 year old hugged her tightly. "This is incredible mom."
She smiled warmly at him. "Thank you, and thank you for coming, although I would have understood if you weren't here."
He returned her smile. "Are you kidding me? I wouldn't miss it for the world."
Someone at the back yelled they heard a car coming, and Emma quickly took place near the tree, standing where she had stood that time as well, waiting for her fiancée to walk towards her and become her wife.
The front door was opened and suddenly she was nervous, what if things went wrong? She realized she was taking a huge risk here, and she could ruin everything. She quickly looked at her friends and familie's faces, who were giving her encouraging smiles. She could do this. The blonde could hear footsteps in the house, soon enough Regina would see them.
The brunette walked into the kitchen and immediately stopped dead in her tracks. Her face was pale and she held on to the counter. Emma wasn't sure what was going on in her wife's head right now.
"Hey love." She said quietly, but because of everyone's silence, Regina could hear clearly.
Regina seemed to be recovering now, and the color was returning to her cheeks.
"Can you come over here?" The blonde asked. It took a few seconds, but the brunette nodded and slowly walked into her garden, passed all the people and towards her wife. The real shock came when she was standing right in front of Emma, who looked exactly the same. Tears were already coming down her cheeks, though she didn't exactly know why she was crying.
Emma carefully took Regina's hands in her own, and stroked them softy with her thumb. She took a shaky bread and looked the brunette in her eyes. "I assume you're wondering why this is happening today." Regina nodded once.
"I'm sorry about all this, it was kind of a last minute decision. However, I do have something to say."
She saw her wife's eyes fall to her chest. Slowly she took one of Regina's hands and placed it on her chest, holding it there.
"The reason that we're here today, is because I want to tell you something and promise you something that I think you have forgotten over time. I know you're scared. I know you're scared because I almost died, I know that you don't want to love me. Because if you love me and I die, you don't know how to survive. I'm here to let you know that I'm not going anywhere. I'm standing here today to show you that I'm still making the same promises to you, almost two years later. I love you with everything that I have and with all of my heart. I promise to give you my heart and trust you with it, wherever you go. I promise to always love you and protect you, even when you curse everyone in this town. I promise to save you when my mother wants to go have coffee with you. But most of all right now Regina," She paused for a breath and pushed Regina's hand harder against her chest. The brunette's eyes dropped to Emma's chest when she felt the beating of her heart. " I promise to never leave you, not even when you think you want me to. I'm not going anywhere Regina. I've ran so many times in my life, but not this time. This time I'm staying. Right here where I belong."
She stopped and for a few seconds everyone was quiet. She could hear faint sniffing in the background. When Regina didn't say anything, the blonde spoke up again, this time taking a step closer to her wife. "Listen, I know this doesn't fix anything, but it's a promise and you have to believe me, and stop fighting me. I want us to be happy again. Maybe we can start by going to dr. Hopper tomorrow?"
Nervously she looked at her wife, this was it. Regina's eyes connected with Emma's. She nodded. "Yes. I would like that." She smiled softly and connected her lips with Emma's. When they disconnected again, Emma smiled at her. They still had a long way to go, but it was a good start. They'd be happy again.
